Seven-year-old Uzumaki Naruto jumped into a bush taller than him as he heard several angry villagers rush past him. A silent snicker escaped his lips before he peeked out of the bush, trying to see if there were any angry people left in the vicinity. When he saw that there was none, he left the safety of that poor tall lonely bush.
"Alright! I have to get this to Nee-san, 'bayo!" The blond pepped himself up as he secured the book in his arms, making sure that it would never slip from his grasp. Today was the tenth of October. Naruto amd his sister decided to split up to buy each other's gift so that it would remain as a surprise later tonight back at their apartment.
It had taken him a while to find a book that seemed like it was to his sister's taste but he was not sure yet. However, he still got it in the end. Naruto ended up getting the book and silently placing the money on the counter. The blond tried not to attract attention but the person behind the counter still saw him.
For some reason, that person yelled thief and called for the rest of the staff. Some bystanders even pitched in their help as they blocked his path when he ran away. He could never get used to being treated like this, as if every single action he did was wrong in the eyes of the villagers. However, he knew that not everyone was like that.
Take that old man from Ichiraku and his daughter for example. They were really nice people and they even gave him and his sister coupons! If that wasn't nice, then what is?
Naruto proceeded to make his way back to the apartment and this time, he triple-checked the area before moving. After all, it was better to make sure that no ome would go after him now that he was nearing the Uzumaki Apartment. Fortunately, he reached home without encountering more mishaps.
"Nee-san, I'm home!" He waited for that familiar nonchalant voice to greet him but it never came. Naruto scratched his cheek, puzzled. Where was his sister? Between the two of them, it was usually her who would get home first. Shira always had a knack for doing things faster than normal kids. So, to find out that he arrived before her made him ecstatic.
He finally beat her in something!
It probably would not happen again but this still counted as victory!
Humming a joyful tune, Naruto bounced to the kitchen while swinging the book in his hand before placing it on the kitchen table. "I gotta tell Shikamaru and the others about this!" They would most likely not believe a word he would say but it was something he was too happy about to keep to himself!
He would probably rub this victory in his sister's face when she gets home. Naruto did not need to worry about her getting angry. In fact, she never got angry with him, just annoyed.
He really does love her the most.
While Naruto was gloating over his one-sided victory, Uzumaki Shira found herself in quite a dilemma.
After buying a few tools for pranking, Shira planned to head straight home. After all, whenever the tenth of October arrived, some of the villagers became more hostile towards her and her brother. In fact, there was that one time when someone threw rotten vegetables at their apartment door. Hell, there was even a newly graduated Academy brat who left a dead fox right in front of their door.
