*PAISLEYS POV*
I am staying in a hotel room along the beach. It was late when I got there, and it was the only thing available and close. It's expensive, and I need to get out. Going home has crossed my mind a couple of times, but I'm not sure I'm ready. I couldn't go home to living with Ethan and not be in a relationship with him. I'm still in a relationship with him now, but I've fucked up.
I want to fix things between Brai and I, though. I don't want to stay with him, I just want him as my friend. He's been through a lot of stuff, and by the looks of it, he has no one he can talk to about it. If he ever needs someone, I want to be here for him. I hear a ding and see I have an email. It's from my step auntie, saying that my cousins are at the holiday shack. My extended family all own a holiday shack on McCauley's beach, NSW.
That's when an idea hits me. If Khloe and Anna, my cousins are there, I could stay with them. I pull out my phone and call Khloe.
"Hey, Paisley! Long time no talk." she greets almost straight away.
"Yeah, how are you?" I ask.
"I'm really good, it's hot here. What can I do for you?"
"Um, well, I just heard you were at the shack," I start.
"Yeah."
"Have you got room for one more?" I ask hopefully.
"Of course! Anna and I are bored out of our minds," she laughs. "When can we expect you?"
"One sec." I say, pulling out my laptop. I quickly type up cheap airfare deals and come up with my answer.
"Tomorrow night?" I ask.
"Sure, we'll pick you up from the airport. Text me with the details." she says cheerfully.
"Thank you, see you then." I say as she hangs up.
I decide to make use of the hotel wifi and go on YouTube. I search through my recommended videos and find the one of Jai on Disney channel a few years ago. I decide to watch it because of how bored I am. I am actually laughing by half way through the video. Jai looks so young and different. His voice is so high compared to now. Something he says catches my full attention and I have to go back.
"Favourite beach?"
"Mm, McCauley's beach."
Oh shit.
I'm having a battle with myself whether to cancel or not, but then I realise. It's just Jai, and he's not even home. He's still in Drysdale. Well, as far as I know that is. I also can't stay here, it's too expensive. I shut everything off and turn off the bedside lamp. I crawl under the covers of the nice, comfy bed and relax. I guess this room is worth the price. Soon I fall asleep, excited to leave tomorrow.
***
I wake up from the constant banging coming from the room above mine. I check the time and see that it's 8:30. The airport website says that there's a cheap Jetstar flight leaving at 11:30, so I'll go early and make sure I get on.
I hesitantly climb out of bed and put on some music to drown out the noisy neighbours. It doesn't work. I pack everything in my suitcase and am about to sit down to watch TV. I'll leave in half an hour. I make sure my phone is plugged in and make my bed. There's something about leaving a fancy hotel room in a bad state. I sort of want to make up with Brai before I go, and that thought is eating me up inside. I make my mind up, I stand up, turn off the TV and grab the handle in my suitcase. I walk it slowly down the stairs and to the front desk. I check out and head out into the sunshine, find the bus stop and study the sign carefully. Just as I work out which bus I need, the bus pulls up. I hop on and pay, sitting down near the front. It doesn't take that long to get to the end of Brai's street, and the bus isn't crowded. I get off quickly, thanking the bus driver as I go. I walk slowly down the road to Brai's house and leave my suitcase on the doorstep, not wanting him to think I want to come back and stay with him. I ring the doorbell, and much to my dismay, his mum opens it. Her eyes fill with shock when she sees its me.
