Their temporary relief was soon forgotten as they saw Snape walking into the scene with two stretchers floating beside him; with Ria and Ron. He conjured three more stretchers to lift the limp forms of Harry, Hermione and Sirius.
"Right, it's nearly time," said Hermione tensely, looking at her watch. "We've got about forty-five minutes until Dumbledore locks the door to the hospital wing. We've got to rescue Sirius and get back into the ward before anybody realises we're missing.."
They waited, watching the moving clouds reflected in the lake, while the bush next to them whispered in the breeze.
"D'you reckon he's up there yet?" said Harry, checking his watch. He looked up at the castle, trying to find a silhouette.
"Look!" Hermione whispered. "Who's that? Someone's coming back out of the castle!"
Harry stared through the darkness. The man was hurrying across the grounds, toward one of the entrances. Something shiny glinted in his belt.
"Macnair!" said Harry. "The executioner! He's gone to get the dementors! This is it— let's go!"
"No! You two go!" said Hermione. "I doubt Buckbeak will be able to fly with more than three people. We can't risk it." Not to mention she wasn't really that fond of flying.
The two nodded, and Harry helped Ria get on the hippogriff. He then placed his foot on one of the lower branches of a bush and climbed up in front of her.
"Just— Just remember to keep your eye on the time." Hermione said in a hurry before they could take off. "I'll be waiting outside the hospital wing. And—"
"Don't get caught." The two answered in sync. Harry looked back at Ria. "Ready?" He whispered.
Ria nodded, snaking her arms around his waist and holding tight. "Yeah."
Harry urged Buckbeak forward. They were gliding quietly toward the upper floors of the castle.
Cold air prickling at her skin.. a flight where she didn't have to think where she was going, unlike while she played Quidditch. It wasn't really a time to think about such things, but soaring through the night sky.. it felt so liberating.
She gripped tightened a little as Buckbeak unexpectedly lowered. "You okay back there?" Harry asked, making her nod. "Good. There he is.. Sirius." He said, pointing at a window.
He reached out and sharply tapped on the glass of the window. They both saw Sirius's jaw drop as he looked up. He leapt from his chair, hurried to the window and tried to open it, but it was locked.
"Stand back!" said Ria, taking out her wand. It's a prisoner's cell for now, it wouldn't open with a simple spell. "Cistem Aperio!" She smiled in triumph as the little latch burst apart from the window and as it sprang open.
