Sophie Mitchell loved her mother more than words could describe. However, the short brunette was constantly bringing random women home on the weekends. Having one-night stands seemed to be Beca Mitchell's raison d'être. It never used to be this way. When Sophie was a little girl, Beca was a good single mother who never did anything reckless. It wasn't only until a few months ago that Beca began seeing other women and bringing them home only to have them leave later that night or the following morning and the worst part? Beca always seemed to be more miserable every time it happened. It crushed Sophie's heart to see her mother in such despair. The eighteen-year-old tried to talk to her mother about it but Beca always turned the conversation into something else or simply refused to talk about it. Sophie grew frustrated and, eventually, she gave up. She always knew that her mother was stubborn and that there was no point in trying to pry.

Today was a new day and Sophie was going through the attic, sorting out her things before she moved to college. The girl was excited to go and her mother was so happy for her, stating that it would be the best thing that would ever happen to her. The statement, whilst positive, was confusing since Beca was vehemently against going when she was Sophie's age but after her first year, it was the best time of Beca's life. All Sophie knew of it was that Beca was in a singing group with a bunch of other girls but that was the extent of it. Beca never talked about it in-depth - another thing that drove Sophie to exhaustion. She wished her mother wasn't so closed off. She wished she shared her thoughts and feelings with her. Something always felt missing with her mother and Sophie wanted more than anything to find out what it was, especially when her mother proceeded to bring home random women.

"I really need to get rid of things. There's no way all of this is going to fit in my dorm."

The girl began opening boxes and sorting through things she planned to take with her to college but, as expected, Sophie walked down Memory Lane as she looked through her childhood memorabilia, from the cutest baby award when she won when she was three to her high school diploma. Now, she was going to college. She had grown so fast and naturally, Beca didn't want to let her little girl go. She wasn't ready to walk up to the main building of Barden to say goodbye to the girl who had all of the love in her heart. Beca knew that would be the hardest day of her life but she couldn't stop her. She would never forgive herself for it if she did and Sophie knew that, too. It was going to be hard for them both but it was their future.

Before she knew it, Sophie had been up in the attic for a good hour and she was only snapped out of her trance when her mother called out to her.

"Soph, are you still up there?"

"Oh, yeah, I am. Lost track of time."

"Come down. It's time for dinner."

"Okay. I'll be down in a minute."

With that, Beca left and Sophie started to pack away her things but in that process, she tripped on one of her stuffed toys, throwing her backward and knocking over a stack of boxes.

"Shit!" She hissed when she saw her mother's things tumble out. "Nice one, Soph. You always were a clutz."

Sighing, Sophie quickly tidied up her mother's things but there was one thing that caught her eye - one thing she had never seen before. Picking up a diary, Sophie flicked through the pages, noting how horrible her mother's handwriting was when she was in college but what shocked her the most wasn't the handwriting, but that of several pictures of a group of girls called the Barden Bellas. Sophie immediately spotted her mother and the image pulled on her heartstrings as for Beca's smile was brighter than the sun and her eyes full of happiness and contentment. Sophie couldn't remember the last time she saw her mother smile like that. She didn't think she was capable of such a thing.
