Beca Mitchell wasn't a fan of the holidays. She didn't like celebrating with her family since she hardly got on with them. Beca's mom left when she was nine and the brunette hadn't been the same since. Her relationship with her dad had been greatly affected because of the divorce. John Mitchell more often than not forced his opinions onto Beca and tried to get her to follow in his academic footsteps. Beca however, rebelled and turned to music instead. John never saw the point in pursuing a career in music but that didn't mean he didn't support his daughter because he did. He wanted her to follow her dreams but he still wanted Beca to have a good education and get a good job with that education. Beca didn't understand nor care what her dad tried to explain and ended up doing her own thing.
All Beca cared about was music and when she graduated high school, she wanted to go to Los Angeles to pursue her dreams. However, John had other ideas. Beca wasn't set on going to college but John thought he would be able to negotiate with his daughter and they eventually came to an agreement after some bickering - Beca would complete at least one year of college then John would pay for her to go to Los Angeles to pursue her music career. Of course, Beca wanted to skip over the going to college part but she had no other choice. It wasn't like she could afford to go on her own anyway. She had been saving up as much money as she could from her job at the local radio station but it wasn't enough. So, Beca agreed to go to college, which happened to be the one that John taught English at - Barden University.
As soon as Beca arrived, she got chills by seeing just how many people were there. Beca despised people. She relished in solace and she was hoping she didn't have to change that. Her roommate wasn't the most pleasant person to be around but that didn't bother Beca too much. She would have rather had a quiet roommate than a talkative and invasive one. During her first day at Barden, Beca attended an activities fair to see if there was any group she wanted to join and also because it was a part of the agreement she made with John - she would join a group in order to socialise and gain some new friends since Beca was a recluse and John didn't want Beca to be like that for the rest of her life.
Beca searched high and low for any kind of music group. She went over to a stall that had the words 'DJ' scrambled on it but it turned out to stand for Deaf Jews instead of Disk Jockey. Beca was disappointed and was on the verge of giving up and heading back to her dorm to unpack the rest of her things until she stumbled across a stall called the Barden Bellas. Beca was greeted by a young woman and her friend. The girl had electric blue eyes, curly red hair, and the most beautiful smile Beca had ever seen. Her friend had blonde hair and green eyes but she didn't hold a candle to the redhead and Beca actually had trouble looking away from her. Unfortunately, Beca wasn't the most social butterfly so she ended up insulting the girl by saying that her music group, which was actually an a capella group, was lame and to make things worse, she said that it wasn't her thing and left.
Once Beca was gone, she mentally kicked herself for everything she did and quickly accepted the fact that she wouldn't see the beautiful redhead ever again. The following night, Beca couldn't have been happier to be more wrong. The redhead barged into Beca's shower after hearing her sing and demanded that she sing some more and encouraged her to audition for the Barden Bellas. Beca was shocked and a bit angry that this random person had violated her privacy but she didn't complain once she got a look at the redhead's perfect figure that did all sorts of things to her. The following day, Beca decided to audition and she hadn't seen the redhead smile so much at her. Beca got accepted into the group after taking a vow then proceeded to go to a party and that's when things changed Beca's life for the better.
Beca didn't like parties since parties meant socialising and that just wasn't Beca's scene, especially when a newly recruited Treblemaker began hitting on her. Beca wanted to leave and she was about to until the beautiful redhead approached Beca, grabbed her hands, yanked her forward, and kissed her. Beca's knees nearly gave out when it happened but she managed to find the wind in her sails and kiss the girl back.
