This is just a short story but an important one nonetheless. Beca Mitchell didn't have a good start in life and Chloe Beale knew that. She was a long-time friend of Beca's. In fact, they used to be neighbours once upon a time. Beca was embarrassed about it but Chloe was able to hear Beca's parents arguing almost every night. Sometimes, the whole neighbourhood could hear it and when things got really bad, Beca hid out at Chloe's. The redhead was more than happy to let Beca stay the night or for as long as she needed. She knew Beca was hurting. She knew Beca was in constant pain. Chloe wished more than anything that she could take it all away. She could see Beca had a good heart but her pain and trauma forced her to be closed off to the world. Unfortunately, all Chloe could do was watch it happen and be there for Beca when she needed it.

To make things worse for Beca, Chloe eventually moved. It broke Beca's heart more than ever. She had grown rather fond of Chloe. The redhead only moved about half an hour away but it was still far away from where Beca was. Thankfully though, not too long after Chloe's relocation, Beca's dad left, taking his abuse with him but it didn't really matter as the damage was done. Beca was angry, miserable, and so confused about everything life threw at her, she didn't know what way was up. It was difficult, to say the least. However, what really threw Beca was when Chloe showed up in her life again but this time, she was the new English teacher at Beca's high school. Beca knew Chloe was always so smart and loved kids so it didn't surprise her that she was now a teacher but it DID surprise her that she was a teacher at Beca's school but Beca didn't complain. She got to see Chloe and that made her day every time she was graced with baby-blue eyes and garnet-red hair.

In fact, having Chloe so close made Beca concentrate better and do well at school. It was as if the older woman cast a spell on the brunette and Beca was powerless to stop it. Chloe made it known to Beca that if she needed anything, she would be there for her and that gave Beca more comfort than anything in the world. To have someone there for her. To have someone who truly cared. To have someone who would listen without judgment and give advice... it was what Beca needed all along and something she thought she had lost forever when Chloe moved. Chloe kept to her word. Whenever Beca needed her, she was there. She carved out time for the girl and listened to everything. Beca was never one to open up but she did with Chloe. Only Chloe could see the real Beca. Only Chloe was privy to who Beca really was. Only Chloe was able to step into Beca's heart and heal it just one bit at a time. Patience was Chloe's greatest gift next to love and soon, it was love that Beca craved from her.

It spiraled into romantic love and it was a force that Beca couldn't curve. She wanted Chloe as her companion. She knew it was wrong since Chloe was a teacher at her school but she wasn't strictly Beca's teacher. There was a difference. Soon, Beca's thoughts were preoccupied with fantasies about what it would be like to date the redhead. Beca's heart fluttered each time and the thought of kissing her... Beca craved that more than a starving dog craved food. She wanted Chloe and her heart was set on winning her over. Beca was in her final year of high school so she didn't have long to go until she was finished. After all the confusion, Beca was clear on one thing - Chloe was the one for her and the one to mend her brokenness. Chloe was everything. She had always been everything.

However, things took a turn for the worse for the brunette. It was just a regular day until someone made a comment about Beca's parents and how much of a loser she was. At first, Beca tried to brush it off as Chloe taught her but the kid only got worse and Beca eventually lost control. Tackling the kid to the ground, Beca threw punches left, right, and center, hitting the kid as hard as she could, releasing all of her anger into every punch. She didn't even care when her fists begun to hurt. She needed to be rid of the pain. She knew what kids said about her behind her back but she rose above it but there is only so much one can take before they break and that happened to Beca that day.

Many teachers attempted to break up the fight but Beca was merciless. She couldn't stop and she didn't want to stop. That was until Chloe rushed to the scene. The redhead pushed her way through the crowd and latched onto Beca from behind, pressing their bodies together. Chloe's touch was enough to get Beca to stop resisting but what made her completely halt was Chloe's soft words in her ear, "It's okay, baby". Just like that, Beca froze and calmly walked with Chloe into an empty classroom. There, Beca fell apart and Chloe caught her as she always did. She soothed Beca the best she could but she didn't stop her tears. She knew the importance of crying and even though Beca abhorred the act, she needed to do it. Pain comes out in many ways but crying is the only way to truly release it. There is no shame in it and those who say there is have a heavy pain of their own they are yet to release.

Beca always hated being vulnerable but with Chloe, it was different. She trusted the woman and she was pretty sure she fell in love with the teacher right then and there. Beca had never felt truly safe before but in the arms of Chloe, she felt like nothing or nobody could touch her. Chloe was Beca's shield from every form of pain imaginable. The feeling was indescribable but one that was amazing to experience nonetheless.

When Beca calmed down, she turned to Chloe who showed the most comforting smile Beca had ever witnessed and that's when Beca couldn't take it anymore. She rose to kiss Chloe. Her lips were soft and they were everything Beca imagined them to be. However, the kiss was cut short when Chloe pushed her away and questioned her. Beca then put her heart on the table. It was now or never. Beca loved her. She always had done. She beseeched Chloe to take her heart. She wanted to be with the redhead. She spoke every word in her head and heart aloud and by the end of it, Chloe was verklempt and Beca was left anxious.

Chloe had no clue what to do but she couldn't lie to herself. She had feelings for Beca for quite some time. She knew it was wrong, especially since Beca was a student but the girl had a big heart. They had a connection that nobody else shared with them. They had one another's backs and Beca had always been so protective over Chloe - SO protective. Chloe always appreciated that. Now, Chloe had a chance to be with the girl but she was conflicted and she soon explained that to Beca. It was hard news to fall onto the brunette's ears but she listened to the soon-to-be rejection but before that happened, Beca proposed something - next year. Next year when Beca graduated and if they still felt the same, they could be together.

It didn't take long for Chloe's heart to skip a beat at the idea. To be with Beca would have been a dream come true. Chloe loved her for all she was - her faults, her anger, her stubbornness, her guardedness - she loved her. Much to Beca's delight, Chloe agreed and they celebrated with a kiss and agreeing before parting that they would remain friends until said time. Beca knew that it would be hard for her not to touch or steal a kiss from the woman but she knew it would have been worth the wait and it was.

Upon graduation day, Beca flew into the arms of her love, crying in delight that one of the toughest parts of her life was over and she was able to begin a new chapter with the person that made the world make sense. Chloe held the girl tightly, tears in her own eyes, as they blocked out the world around them. Beca's feelings never wavered, nor did Chloe's. It had been a hard road but Beca got there in the end and as Chloe always told her that everything would be okay, Beca knew that everything from now on would indeed be okay.
