Beca Mitchell couldn't stop smiling at the letter she received from her wife Chloe Mitchell who sent the brunette a letter every week to get her through until she came home next month from Afghanistan. Beca was in the Marines and she had been away from her wife and the life she once knew for almost six months now. Her assignment was for seven months and it had gone so slow. Beca had missed her wife terribly and it filled her with joy whenever she received a letter from her beautiful redhead. It wasn't easy being a Marine. Beca was always on edge and she was terrified about going out into the field to fight but it was in her heart to defend her country. She knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a soldier and as soon as she became of age, Beca signed up and was accepted into the academy.
Chloe was happy for Beca but was also scared. She told Beca about the risks and how she needed to be extra careful since Chloe demanded that Beca return to her. Beca couldn't promise anything but she did promise that she would do her best and that's all Chloe could have asked for. Beca had been in the Marines for just over five years and she and Chloe had been married for just over one. When Beca got home from one of her assignments last year, she decided that she didn't want to wait any longer to marry the woman of her dreams so she didn't. Beca proposed and they got married a month later. The two women were so in love with each other they couldn't wait to get married and have their honeymoon, which lasted about a month and a bit. They went all over the world and did all that just married couple stuff and they loved it.
It was those memories that kept the darkness at bay for Beca. Being a Marine was hard and gloomy. She had her more than fair share of dark days but thinking of Chloe and getting letters from her pushed them aside and brought Beca back to happiness - as happy as she could get being a Marine. Chloe was extremely proud of Beca for following her heart and having the courage to fight for her country and Beca was ever so thankful that she had a wife that supported her. From time to time, Beca would get extremely lonely but she had a lot of friends in the Marines, especially Chloe's brother Lee. He shared a lot of similarities with Chloe such as his sense of humour, his kindness, his red hair, and bright blue eyes. He was pretty much Chloe but in a male form.
Beca and Lee got on like a house on fire and Beca trusted Lee with everything, including her life. They had been on many missions together and they always had each other's back. Being with Lee made life as a Marine less stressful and more enjoyable. Beca didn't know where she'd be without Lee and Lee didn't know where he'd be without Beca. They made a great team and made even greater friends. Beca didn't see Lee as her brother-in-law, he was like a real brother to her. Beca was an only child so having someone like Lee in her life was good for her.
"Letter from the Mrs?" Lee sat across from Beca who was reading over Chloe's letter again.
"Yep," Beca answered.
"What'd she say?"
"Just how much she misses me and how proud she is of me and... well... let's just say she's got plans for me for when I go home next month."
"Okay, Mitchell, I just wanted the basics. I didn't want to know what you plan on doing to my sister when you go home."
"More like what she's going to do to me," Beca smirked.
"Dude!"
Beca laughed then brushed her thumb over the lipstick mark on the bottom of the page before folding it up and slipping it back into the envelope, which would go in the pile of Chloe's letters that Beca always kept. Beca never threw a letter from Chloe away. Even though Beca had tonnes of letters, the brunette refused to throw them away. They were more valuable to her than anything.
