Chloe's POV
It's been a year since your accident. One year ago and you've never been the same. It was a year ago that you got into a car accident and where your car and the colliding care caught on fire. You were in the car with your boyfriend Tom who was driving recklessly when he clipped another car. He managed to escape before the fire got to him but you weren't so lucky. You suffered third-degree burns up the right side of your body. The damage wasn't as bad as most serious burns are but they're bad enough for you. You're not crippled in any way. You are still able to perform tasks just as anybody else can. The burns begin at the base of your right thigh and travel up the side of your body and finish just under your right ear. Thankfully, the damage hasn't changed how you look. You can see the burn marks up your neck and a bit on your face. You're not hideous to put it simply but you weren't as beautiful as you once were to Tom who left you soon after the accident.
It broke your heart and you never felt good enough for anybody. You look in the mirror and you still look the same as you once did but with some scaring. However, when you first got the scars you were devastated. You felt like a freak and you still do from time to time. You feel your scarring affect how people treat you and look at you and you hate it. You just want to be normal and you try and be normal but sometimes people's looks and comments get the better of you. You get quite depressed from time to time and you have to do everything in your power to stop yourself from going into such a dark place. You don't know where you'd be without your best friend Aubrey and your loving and supportive family. You don't know what you'd do without them.
It's your final year at Barden University and you can't wait until you graduate. The thought scares you and you don't want to move on from being a Bella but you have no choice. You are ready to move on to the next stage in your life. You plan to become a vet since you love animals. Animals love you no matter what and they don't judge you. You have a dog back at home where your parents are but you want one of your own. You plan to get one as soon as you leave college and you're excited about it. You're not sure what the future holds for you but you can only wait and see.
On the first day of your last year, you and Aubrey try to recruit new members for the Barden Bellas. It's hard since the Bellas are now a laughing stock after Aubrey's accident the year before but you're not giving up and neither is Aubrey no matter how many negative comments she throws your way. You manage to hand out a few flyers to people who agree to audition. The women aren't exactly what Aubrey is looking for but you want to focus more on their singing ability rather than their looks. The day drags on and you spot a woman in the distance with dark eye shadow, dark, brown hair, dark eyes with multiple ear piercings and is wearing jeans, boots, a tank top, and a vest. You're immediately attracted to her and you point her out to Aubrey. Aubrey is unsure since she deems the girl too "alternative" for the group but you ignore her comment and hand the flyer to the girl when she approaches you.
She looks at the flyer then up at Aubrey and yourself. She looks at you then looks at your burns. You're more confident about your burns and they don't bother you as much as they once did. She looks at your face then at your arm before tearing her eyes completely away from you. You're not sure why but your heart sinks a bit. You haven't been with anybody since Tom and you don't want to be; you don't expect to be. It's a hard pill to swallow but you know it's the truth. You're not the same as you once were so being with someone now is close to impossible. You're able to cover up the majority of your burns with your clothes and with your hair but your hair is only so long and can only cover so much.
You and Aubrey talk to the girl and you see that she has got some attitude and it draws you in more but Aubrey hates it. You can tell by the way she glares at the brunette and snaps at her but the girl finds it amusing. You talk to her but the girl looks away from you and you know it's because of your burns. You know because it's not the first time people have looked away from you. It's like they're uncomfortable to look or they feel as if they're being rude by looking. You're sick of it and you wish that people would just look at you normally. You're not offended by people looking at you. There's a difference between looking and staring. The girl in front of you is purposefully NOT looking at you and it hurts. You want to say something but it's quite a hot day and you've been standing outside for hours on end with your best friend who is breathing down your neck about getting good singers. So the last thing you want to do is argue with some stranger who you know isn't afraid to retaliate.
