"I'm not gay," Chloe Beale stated boldly to her best friend Aubrey Posen, who she was sharing a lovely lunch with as they usually did on a Saturday.
"Mm-hm," Aubrey hummed, not at all convinced.
"I'm not."
"Sure."
"Don't do that."
"Don't do what?"
"That," Chloe pointed. "Don't do it."
"Chloe," Aubrey put her coffee down. "You can't sleep with your assistant - your FEMALE assistant - and say you're not gay. Sure, you may not be one-hundred percent gay but you're not one-hundred percent straight either."
Chloe went to retort but she knew better. Aubrey was always a quick learner and she was smart and sometimes a bit too smart for Chloe's liking.
"I don't see what all the fuss is about anyway. You clearly like her."
"I'm not gay."
"Chloe, don't kid yourself. You clearly are a little bit gay. If you weren't, you wouldn't let her do the things she does to you."
That was true but Chloe was just in denial about it. Unfortunately, Chloe grew up with a lot of negative stigma around being gay and all of that so she was very quick to defend herself against it. However, she didn't do a very good job since she hired a new personal assistant several months ago and Chloe felt Cupid strike her with his arrow because Chloe fell hard for the five-foot-two, brunette, alt-girl by the name of Beca Mitchell. She was witty and had a smart-mouth but she was a good worker and quite frankly, she was the best personal assistant Chloe ever had not because they were secretly sleeping together. No, Beca was actually a good worker and did everything that was asked of her and more.
As soon as Chloe met Beca, she knew there was something about her. Chloe constantly kept checking Beca out and was super nice to her. Chloe was nice to everyone but to Beca, Chloe was extra nice and sometimes even gave Beca time off or allowed her to go home early. It wasn't like Chloe to do that but again, there was something about Beca that drove Chloe crazy. Perhaps it was the alternative/badass/rebel look or perhaps it was that Beca was extremely good looking and happened to be Chloe's type - the type Chloe suppressed all her life but came alive as soon as she met Beca.
"You make it sound so dirty," Chloe hushed, not wanting the people around them to hear their conversation.
"Well, you can't exactly tell me that what you've been doing is "clean", now can you?"
Chloe couldn't argue with that. She remembered their first time as if it was yesterday. Chloe was in her office, putting together a list of paperwork for Beca to sort.
"Yes, Miss Beale?" Beca said as she walked into Chloe's office.
"Chloe," Chloe corrected. "Call me, Chloe."
"Right, sorry. Force of habit."
"That's okay. I need you to sort these for me and have them on my desk by two. Or three. Or whenever you can. You know, it's not that big of a deal but I do need them back by today. Sometime today." Chloe wanted to punch herself for being too flexible with Beca.
She really needed the paperwork back by two but she didn't have the heart to push Beca and she hated it.
"Sure, I'll get on that right away."
"Excellent. Thank you." Chloe stood from her desk and went to hand Beca the paperwork but she was too distracted by Beca's gaping top to successfully place the items in the brunette's hands. "Shit!" Chloe hissed as the paperwork slipped from her hands when she bumped into the corner of her desk.
