Chloe was furious. The redhead was cleaning the bedroom she shared with her girlfriend of four years only to discover a packet of cigarettes in one of Beca's music folders. Chloe was absolutely outraged. Chloe knew the effects of smoking and she hated the disgusting habit. So, the redhead was in the bedroom waiting for her girlfriend to get home from her internship. Chloe had a whole speech prepared in her head. There was no way she was going to let Beca get away with this. Chloe was dead set against smoking or anything of the sort. She was prepared to whip Beca until she was black and blue she was that angry.
Beca eventually walked through the door of their shared bedroom, dropping her bag on the floor next to the corner chair.
"Beca Mitchell!" Chloe barked.
"Shit!" Beca jumped. "What the Hell, Chlo?"
"Don't what the Hell, Chlo, me! What is this?" Chloe threw the cigarettes at the brunette.
"Ah, shit..."
"You've got five seconds to explain yourself." Chloe folded her arms across her chest, not at all impressed.
"How did you find these?"
"They were in one of your music folders while I was cleaning our room AGAIN."
Beca sighed. "I'm sorry, Chlo. I've just been so stressed these past few months. It's our final year at Barden and I've got so much on my plate right now. I needed something to take the edge off."
"Why didn't you come and talk to me about it instead of taking up this disgusting habit?"
"Come on, Chlo, you know I'm weird about that stuff."
"Beca, I'm your GIRLFRIEND. We share EVERYTHING together and we promised that we wouldn't keep anything from each other."
"I know we did but-"
"No, buts!" She snapped. "Do you know how harmful smoking is? I am not losing you to cigarettes! I plan to grow old with you and be invited to our great-grandkids wedding where we will sing for them and hope for great-great-grandkids."
If it wasn't obvious already, Chloe loved Beca a lot. As soon as the redhead laid eyes on Beca, it was love at first sight. Only months into dating and Chloe was already thinking about wedding plans, where they'd live, how many kids they were going to have, how many dogs, and so on. Chloe had big plans for her and Beca and she wasn't going to let cigarettes take them away from her.
"Seriously, Beca, I can't believe you'd do this and more so keep it from me! How long have you been doing this for?"
"Since the start of our final year."
"BECA!"
"I told you that I'm stressed!"
"So? You come to me when you're stressed! We talk things out no matter how big, small, awkward, or uncomfortable it is! It's what we do! We don't keep things from each other!"
"Oh, so does that apply to you and your self-harming?"
Chloe's face fell. "W, what?"
"Don't what me. Chloe, I know you cut yourself - you cut your legs."
"H... how do you know that?"
"Because it's so obvious. You always cover them up, you don't let me shower with you anymore, whenever we have sex it's dark and you keep your pants on, you don't wear shorts anymore or skirts, at least ones that are too short, and I've found blood in the bathroom multiple times and missing razors."
Chloe was shocked. She thought she was being so careful. The redhead wasn't proud of herself but she had always suffered anxiety and depression throughout her life. Even though Chloe was the most bright and bubbly person in the world, sometimes she had trouble finding her own smile.
"Why do you do it, Chlo?"
Chloe hung her head until Beca walked over to her and rubbed her arms.
"Hey, talk to me," she said softly.
"I... I guess I'm like you - I'm stressed. This is our final year at Barden and I'm freaking out, Becs. I'm terrified to move on. I always thought that I'd be a Bella. I intentionally failed Russian lit three times so I could be a Bella and be with you. I'm afraid to move on and graduate... it's really scary."
"I'm scared, too, babe, but as you say to me all the time - we need to stay strong for each other. I didn't want to tell you about my smoking habit because I knew how stressed you were. We've all got a lot on our plate and the last thing we need is more stuff to worry about."
"Beca, I'd rather you tell me that you're stressed out before you turn to smoking. Those things take years off your life and I'm already four years older than you and I don't want any more years between us."
"There won't be. I'll stop."
"You will?"
"Yes, only if you stop harming yourself. It breaks my heart, babe. You're too beautiful to do that shit. You're the most loving, kind, caring, funny, beautiful woman I have ever met and I love you more than life itself. I don't want you to ever hurt yourself again. PLEASE come to me and we'll sort it out. I was going to say something but I wanted to give you the chance to tell me yourself... I was wrong."
"Oh, Beca," Chloe threw herself onto her girlfriend and sobbed into her neck. "I'm sorry."
"I'm sorry, Chlo. I should have come to you."
"And I should have come to you, too."
Beca held onto the redhead tightly, trying her best to hold back her tears. She hated it when Chloe cried - it was the worst sound in the world and it broke her heart.
"We'll get through this together, babe, okay?" Beca told her. "I'll help you stop hurting yourself and you help me to stop smoking. If we're going to live to see our great-great-grandkids, we better start living healthy - physically AND mentally."
"Absolutely."
Beca and Chloe held onto one another for a little while longer before breaking away and kissing.
"Can I see them?" Beca asked softly.
Chloe was hesitant but this was a new beginning so she nodded.
"Thank you." Beca gave the woman a brief peck before falling to her knees and slowly pulling Chloe's pants down, revealing the scars on her thighs.
Beca felt her heart smash into a million pieces. She swallowed the lump in her throat then leaned in and began placing gentle kisses on the scars. Chloe closed her eyes and weaved her hand into Beca's hair as tears rolled down her cheeks. She had no idea how she got so lucky to land a girlfriend like Beca. The brunette may have been moody, distant, and stubborn, but she was a totally different person with Chloe. With Chloe, she was loving, kind, sweet, protective, and caring. She would have done anything for Chloe and vice versa. Neither woman knew true happiness until they met each other.
When Beca was done, she pulled Chloe's pants back up and stood to meet Chloe's gaze.
"So, do we have a deal?" Beca checked, holding out her hand.
"Yes," Chloe smiled and shook Beca's hand. "We have a deal."
"Good." Beca leaned in and kissed the redhead once more. "Now, I'm kinda craving a cigarette so we better get something to eat or do something to take this urge and stress away."
"I know the perfect way to get rid of your urges and stresses, babe,"
Beca's eyes lit up. "Sex?"
"Running."
"What!"
"Come on, let's get those endorphins going for me and exercise those nicotine-filled lungs of yours!" Chloe turned around and started changing into her running clothes.
Beca put her head back and groaned. Giving up smoking was going to be the longest journey of her life, especially if she had to take up running instead.
"The things we do for love..." Beca sighed and changed into her running gear.
