"Can you say, mama? Mama? Mama. Ma-ma. Mama."

Chloe Mitchell's giggles escaped from her mouth as she watched her wife interacting with their daughter. Ever since little Abby Mitchell turned six months old, Beca was adamant about getting her daughter to say 'mama' first instead of 'mommy'. Chloe wasn't phased but it was fun to see just how hard her wife was trying.

"Mama. Say it - ma-ma. Mama."

Abby copied her mother's lips but no words came out - only babble.

"Mama. Ma-ma. Ma-ma. Mama."

"Babe, you're going to overload her," Chloe called out from the kitchen.

"I am not."

"You've been going at it for twenty minutes now. Give her a break and come and get your dinner."

"Fine," huffed Beca as she picked up her daughter and walked into the kitchen. "Alright, little dude, dinner time." Beca put Abby in her highchair, allowing Chloe to place her dinner in front of her. "Eat up for mama? Ma-ma?"

"Becs,"

"Fine."

Chloe rolled her eyes playfully, finishing cooking hers and Beca's dinner while Beca fed Abby.

"Mama..." Beca whispered. "Ma-ma... Mama."

"Beca!"

"Okay, fine, I'm sorry. I'll stop."

"She'll say it when she's ready."

"Fine..."

"I'm starting to wonder who's the child here - you or Abby."

"You knew what you were signing up for when you married me, Mitchell."

"I didn't know it would be this bad though," she teased.

"Well, we're married and have a child now so you're locked in."

"Yes, I didn't spend three hours in labour to have you bail on me and your daughter that I carried."

"If she says mommy first instead of mama I'm leaving. Just a heads up."

"Of course, babe," she giggled.

Chloe wasn't fussed on what name Abby said first. She was just happy enough that she had married the woman of her dreams, had got her dream job as a vet, and now had a beautiful, healthy baby girl that was the apple of her eye. Beca was such a great mother and Chloe loved watching Beca and Abby interact. Beca may have been a badass but she was an absolute softie for their daughter. Beca's whole persona was the bad girl. The whole world knew her as the bad girl but they also knew her as the world's biggest softie when it came to Abby and Chloe. Since Beca was one of the most popular artists in the world, it was hard for the couple to get privacy. Everywhere Beca and Chloe went there was someone sneaking a photo of them.

One time, a photographer snapped a few shots of Abby and Beca threatened to sue them if they didn't delete the photos. Beca didn't really care if people took photos of her but she did care if people took photos of Abby. Beca was extremely protective of her daughter as was Chloe. The media were vultures and Beca and Chloe did everything they could to shield their daughter from them. They knew it was going to be hard to give their child a somewhat 'normal' lifestyle but they had a good connection of friends and family to help them. Abby was precious and neither mother wanted her to be tainted by the savage world of fame and the last thing they wanted was to push Abby into that life.

"Okay, are you done, little dude? You were hungry tonight!" Beca stated, wiping Abby's face.

"Just like her mama," Chloe smiled.

"That's right. Mama? Ma-ma."

"Beca."

"Fine," the brunette sighed then went to take Abby's dishes to the sink.

"M... M..." Abby began.

"Oh my God," Beca sat back down and watched her daughter. "What was that, dude? Mama?"

"M... M... M... Mm..."

"Ma-ma... Ma-ma..." Beca tried to help guide Abby through her words and little Abby was focusing on her mother's mouth.

"Ma... Ma... Mo..."

"Mama. Ma-ma."

"Mo... Mom... Mommy... Mommy..."

"WHAT!"

"Oh my God!" Chloe laughed into her hands.

"Mommy!" Abby beamed. "Mommy!"

"No! Mama! Mama! MA-MA!"

"Mommy!" She smiled.

"No!" Beca fell back in her seat in defeat.

"Good girl, Abby," Chloe just managed to say through her giggles. "Very clever girl.

"What have you done to our daughter?" Beca whined. "Every day I've been talking to her and trying to get her to say mama but she says mommy instead!"

"I haven't done anything, babe, honestly."

"How could she possibly get mommy from mama?"

"You say it differently sometimes. You say mama but sometimes pronounce it as momma."

"And you didn't stop me for that exact reason, right?"

"Babe, I swear I didn't say anything to her. I haven't had a chance. You've been going at it for weeks."

"No..." Beca groaned, tilting her head back.

"Mommy!" Abby giggled.

"Yeah, yeah, well done, kid. No need to rub it in..." Beca sighed.

"Oh, come on, Becs. She said her first word! You should be happy! Who's a clever girl? You are! You are!" Chloe picked up Abby and peppered her face in kisses, making the little girl giggle.

"Mommy!"

"Mommy!" Chloe copied, causing an even bigger grin to spread across Abby's face.

"Come on, Becs, look at her! She's so proud of herself! All of your hard work didn't go completely to waste."

Beca huffed, looking up at her wife and child and saw just how happy and proud Abby was and it was a VERY adorable sight.

"I suppose you're right..." Beca got up and stepped over to Chloe and Abby. "You are a clever girl."

"Yeah, very clever girl." Chloe kissed Abby's head then handed her over to Beca.

"Even though you didn't say what I wanted, I'm still proud of you, little dude. You're very clever. You take after me."

Chloe tutted and gently smacked Beca's arm.

"Proud of you, little dude." Beca kissed Abby's head and gave her a cuddle. "Next time say, mama, okay?"

"Mommy!"

"Yeah, we'll work on that."

Chloe giggled, planting a kiss on Beca's and Abby's cheeks.

"Now, let's get you cleaned up then pop you into bed," Beca said.

"Mommy!"

"So it begins..."

"Love you, girls!" Chloe called out, sitting at the dining table and eating her dinner.

"Yeah, yeah..." Beca waved sarcastically before cleaning up Abby and getting her ready for bed, still astounded how the little girl said 'mommy' instead of 'mama'.
