This is what she is wearing the remainder of the story until I change it.

****

I had gotten a call from Steve, he told me to meet him at the hospital because Fury had been shot.

I pulled into the parking lot where there were a million police cars.

I ran past the lady at the front desk. I ran straight to the room with the most people around it.

I walked in and saw Steve staring at the window that gave us a view at the surgeons.

"Is he gonna make it?" I asked.

"I don't know." He said gloomy.

"Tell me about the shooter."

"He's fast. Strong. Had a metal arm."

I tried not to show it but I really was scared. It only took that small description for me to figure out who had done this.

Fury is the whole reason I'm here. only to be killed by him. A man I thought I had lost.

"Ballistics?" I asked Maria who had just showed up.

"Three slugs, no rifling. Completely untraceable."

"Soviet-made." I guessed.

"Yeah." She said turning her head towards me.

His heartbeat started to slow down.

"Don't do this to me Nick."

I watched as the doctors started to try and get his heartbeat up.

They shocked him once, then twice, then another.

His heartbeat and pulse stopped completely. "Don't do this to me, Nick. Don't do this to me." I said under my breath.

We all watched as the doctors backed away from his body.

Steve turned and walked out of the room followed by Maria.

They let us into a room to see him one last time.

Silence.

Until I heard Maria walk in. "I need to take him."

I stepped back. "Nikita." Steve came up to me.

I walked out of the room without saying a word.

"Nik!" Steve ran after me.

"Why was Fury in your apartment?" I turned to look at him.

He let out a sigh and shrugged his shoulders. " I don't know."

"Cap, they want you back at SHIELD." Rumlow said.

"Yeah, give me a second." Steve replied.

"They want you now." Rumlow snapped.

"Okay."

Steve turned back to me. "You're a terrible liar." I told him.

I made my way past a vending machine. I looked down at my watch to check the time.

"Might as well." I put in a dollar and took a bag of chips, when something small and silver caught my eye.

Behind a few packets of gum was the hard drive I had given to Fury.

I looked around then looked in the pockets of my jacket for enough money to buy all that gum and get the hard drive.

*Time Skip*

Steve's POV

I walked into the hospital finding the vending machine I hid the hard drive in.

I looked into the slot it was supposed to be in but it was gone.

Just then a reflection came into view on the glass, it was Nik.

I turned around to face her and pushed her into an empty room.

"Where is it?" I asked sternly shoving her against the wall.

"Safe." She claimed calmly.

"Do better."

"Where did you get it?"

"Why would I tell you?" I looked her dead in the eyes.

"Fury gave it to you. Why?"

"Whats on it?" I questioned her back.

"I don't know."

"Stop lying."

"I only act like I know everything, Rogers."

"I bet you knew Fury hired the pirates, didn't you?" I looked behind my shoulder then back at her.

"Well, it makes sense. The ship was dirty, Fury needed a way in, so do you."

"I'm not gonna ask you again." I snapped at her.

"I know who killed Fury." She said. She looked at me like she was trying to look for something.

"Most of the intelligence community doesn't believe he exists. The ones that do call him the Winter Soldier. He's credited with over two dozen assassinations in the last 50 years." She said.

"So he's a ghost story."

"Just after I escaped Hydra, I was in a taxi when someone knocked us off the road. I couldn't save the driver but I was able to jump out." She continued. "The second I got out of the car I was shot." She lifted up her shirt just enough so I could see the scar.

"I took cover, until..." She stopped, she was facing me but her eyes looked like they were somewhere else.

"The Winter Soldier ran away." She returned to her story. "Bye-bye, bikinis."

"I bet you look terrible in them now."

"Going after him is a dead end. Many people have tried. I've tried."

She held up the hard drive. "Like you said, he's a ghost story."

I grabbed the hard drive from her. "Well, let's find out what the ghost wants."
