Rio de Janeiro, Brazil...
"Anders, as you know, Luzaguay has sent a team of athletes to compete in the Olympics for the first time. It's our top priority to be here in Rio and make sure the Games go as planned," Chief Ripley informs, "considering SOMBRA used to have a strong hold on the Luzaguayan government, a Luzaguayan team in the Olympics is troubling."
"SOMBRA doesn't seem to have much influence on their government anymore. They've held elections and have elected a leader," Michelle reports, having looked up the current status of Luzaguayan over breakfast.
"However, despite never having qualified for the Olympics before, the Luzaguayans suddenly have athletes that break every world record. That sounds like SOMBRA's next-level program!" she suspects, "the Olympics makes for an excellent world stage. If SOMBRA's up to something here, it could have global ramifications!"
"Which is why we're here. We must keep an eye on the Luzaguayan athletes and be on the lookout for any suspicious behaviour," she states, "we've been asked to help ensure the peace and patrol the famous Copacabana Beach area, where the Olympic festivities are taking place."
"Those festivities will attract thousands of people. If SOMBRA's going to strike, it'd be there!" the Chief declared.
"The best place to start is at Copacabana Beach!" Anders decided, "at the slightest sign of SOMBRA's involvement, we intervene!"
"Early morning is a good time to get a feel for the place without the crowds getting in the way," Michelle says wisely, "Anders, we're heading to Copacabana Beach! Let the games begin!"
Anders and Michelle left the plane and drove to Copacabana Beach to investigate the Olympic celebrations. A lineup of colourful parade floats caught their attention as they arrived at the beach, so they decided to search there first for anything suspicious or SOMBRA related. And a dead athlete with a needle sticking out of the side of his neck definitely fits those criteria.
The man's body was sprawled out on the ground in front of a parade float depicting a statue of an Olympic sprinter. The needle sticking out of his neck was empty, so whatever had been inside must have caused his death. Near the body was a broken necklace sitting on the edge of the parade float, and further from that was a faded card.
"Anders looks like one heck of a party rolled through here. Unfortunately, a deadly one!" Michelle exclaims, "and with that syringe sticking out of his neck, this isn't parade roadkill... this is murder!"
"The victim's wearing a badge! It says his name is Oscar Rojas," Anders said, holding the badge as he read it, "hold on a sec, he's from Luzaguay! It's one of their Olympic athletes! And the victim has yellow eyes. We know what yellow eyes mean...."
"That means our victim was SOMBRA!" she finished, "our fears were justified! SOMBRA's been controlling the Luzaguayan athletes! But that doesn't explain why one of their SOMBRA-trained athletes is dead!"
He rolls his eyes, "with SOMBRA, nothing makes sense..."
"If we want to close this case, we must do our due diligence. Anders, what do we have?" she inquired, pulling out her notepad.
"I've got a broken necklace near the victim that looks like it was ripped off," Anders answers, examining Oscar's neck, "but there aren't any traces around the victim's neck; this necklace is most likely the killer's! Let's put it back together!"
"This card's addressed to our victim from the Olympic Committee, congratulating him on his win," Michelle says, picking up the second clue, "looks like someone wrote a message inside the card. A good dusting would give us the verdict! Anders, we were right to come to Rio! SOMBRA's up to something, and finding the killer of their athlete may tell us what!"
