December 25, 1992

"IT'S CHRISTMAS!" I heard Lorelai scream upstairs.

I looked down at Melissa as I held her. "Someone's awake."

She smiled, causing me to smile. I had made breakfast all morning since Melissa decided to wake me up at four in the morning.

"Mmm, breakfast," Kurt murmured in my ear with his morning voice. God, I loved that voice. It was so deep and attractive. "Merry Christmas." He kissed Melissa on the top of the head.

"Merry Christmas," I smirked as I handed him Melissa.

Lorelai gasped a very loud gasp. "PANCAKES?! FOR ME?!"

"For you, baby," I kneeled down and opened my arms for her to give me a hug.

"Merry Christmas, Mommy!" She collided into my body and wrapped her arms around me. "I love you."

I chuckled, letting her go. "I love you, too. Your plate is on the table; Go eat."

Kurt yawned. "How long have you been awake for?"

"Since four," I frowned. "But that's alright. I get to wake up to my beautiful family-" The doorbell interrupted me. I ran to the door and saw my parents standing in the doorway. I hugged them both and wished them a merry Christmas. They walked to the table and smothered Lorelai with hugs and kisses. Kurt handed Melissa to my mom and looked a little started as he did not have a shirt on.

My dad set down presents underneath the tree. I offered to help, but he was already done.

"Melissa's getting so big!" My mom exclaimed.

"I know," I chuckled. "I remember when Lorelai was that age." She was still living with Robert's mother, but I went to visit her occasionally to see how she was doing. I missed a lot of her early life growing up, but I wasn't going to miss any of Melissa's. I was in a stable environment.

"Dave, Krist, and Shelli are all going to be coming over soon to drop off some presents," Kurt whispered in my ear since there was a lot of noise.

"Should we grab their gifts from upstairs then?" I asked.

"Spend time with your family; I'll go get it."

As Kurt walked away, my mom walked over to me. "You and Kurt are still together? After his overdose?"

"Yes, Mom."

"Well, I would've thought that you would've split up with him."

"No, I love him." Why was she being so judgmental? "I made some breakfast if you guys want some."

"Oh, that's alright."

I noticed that Lorelai and my dad were talking with each other, which made me smile. My dad was trying more with my kids and I appreciated that.

"Frances isn't here?" My mom asked.

"She'll be coming over later," I explained. "Courtney has her for the morning."

"Courtney?" Her eyebrows raised in confusion.

"Frances's mother."

"Oh, the one he cheated no you with."

"Yep," I was relieved when I saw Kurt walking down the stairs.

"When can we open presents?!" Lorelai whined.

"When you're done eating," I replied.

"I'm done."

"Then let's open them."
