March 4, 1994
The whole airplane ride, I was nauseous and I did not feel well at all.
As soon as I had gotten off of the phone with Dave, he bought me a plane ticket and I started packing my things. I didn't know how long I was going to be staying, so I brought a whole suitcase with clothes to help supply me for a week.
I had rushed downstairs right after and told my mom what happened. She was not happy, but she understood. She gave me a hug and drove me to the airport. I said goodbye to Lorelai and Melissa and went on the plane to Rome.
Everyone started to get off of the airplane, and I couldn't wait. I grabbed my suitcase from above me, and got into the line to get off of it.
I rushed off and into the airport.
I was confused by what I was seeing.
I had no idea where to go.
I started to panic, but then I heard someone call my name.
I spun around in every direction, trying to look for someone I recognized.
I saw Dave and I ran towards him, with my suitcase in my hand. As soon as I got close enough to him, I dropped it and wrapped my arms around him, sighing in relief.
"Oh my God," I started to cry.
Too much had happened recently, but with Dave near me, it made me feel better. Dave had always made me feel better. His goofy smile always made me chuckle.
But this time, he wasn't smiling.
He thought that one of his best friends had died.
"Dave," I still held onto him, not wanting to ever let go.
The whole plane ride, I felt lonely and like no one was there with me. I cried majority of the ride, but that was because I was scared that Kurt wasn't going to make it.
"What if he doesn't make it?" My voice trembled.
Dave rubbed my hair out of my face. "He's with professionals. Krist is with him right now."
"Oh my God, we have to hurry, Dave."
"Ruby," He shook his head. "God, this is so fucking frustrating."
"What?"
"This is our life now: worrying that Kurt is going to die."
"No, don't say that, Dave. That's not our life. This is just a one-time thing. We don't even know what happened."
"You're right. I'm sorry."
"Let's go, Dave."
We got into a cab and drove to Dave's hotel to drop off my suitcase and for him to gather a couple of things he needed in case he spent the night.
We drove to the hospital right after. There were swarms of paparazzi surrounding the entrance.
"That's so fucking sick," I said as I stepped out of the car.
"Let's hurry," Dave grabbed my hand as we ran inside and pushed past everyone.
"Ruby, is Kurt dead?"
"Ruby, do you know what happened to Kurt?"
"Ruby!"
"Dave, did you know if Kurt is dead or not?"
We finally made it inside of the hospital and just rushed to the hospital room that Kurt was in. It was a little ways around, but we were going to make it.
