Harry is tired of being punished when he tries to be good.
~
Harry left the UK after his fourth year, the year where he led his classmate to his death and ended up helping the murderer of his parents resurrect himself. It was all his fault after all. He had tried to be the good Gryffindor by sharing the trophy, the win, with his fellow Hogwarts champion. Only no one won. Cedric died, Voldemort was back and after being tortured he was sent back to Durskiban. He was well and truly punished for trying to do a good deed.
"-No good deed goes unpunished-"
He had spent the first month of the summer being ignored by his relatives and given lame platitudes from his friends and godfather in the form of vague and infrequent letters. It gave him time to think and think and think.
Every time he had done something for the so-called 'greater good' he was punished. Save the school from a possessed teacher? Sent back to an abusive home. Save the school from a giant freaking snake and a cursed diary? Sent back to an abusive home. And on it goes. Even before Hogwarts he was always punished by the Dursleys when he tried to be good. Got better grades than Dudley? Beaten unconscious. Help a neighbour with their groceries? Beaten and given an increase of chores despite the impossible amount he already had to do.
"-No act of charity goes unresented
No good deed goes unpunished-"
Harry was just so tired of being punished for being good, for trying to do the right thing. It came to a head when he and his cousin were attacked by dementors. Harry saved them of course only to be scolded by Mrs. Figg who was apparently an Order member whatever that was and had spent his entire childhood watching his abuse and never helped. That meant that Dumbledore knew.
"-That's my new creed
My road of good intentions
Led where such roads always lead
No good deed
Goes unpunished-"
Harry had carried Dudley home, although that was a herculean task of its own as he was freaking huge. Vernon had accosted him as soon as he had seen the state his son was in and attempted to throttle Harry before he was even over the doorstep. The only reason why he was stopped was due to the owl. The owl that carried the letter that cemented the wisps of plans floating in his mind. It was a howler. A clear woman's voice filled the tense air.
"Dear Mr. Potter, the Ministry has received intelligence that at six twenty-three, this evening, you performed the Patronus Charm in the presence of a Muggle. As a clear violation of the Decree for the Reasonable Restriction of Underage Sorcery, you are hereby expelled from Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Hoping you are well, Mafalda Hopkirk."
That was the final straw.
He had run upstairs and gathered some essentials before fleeing the house. A quick stop at Gringotts got him a passport, muggle money and a trace free wand. It had cost him all of the Goblin made items in his vaults. Vaults he had no idea existed in the first place. He would send a note to the British sector of Gringotts once he had found a place to settle to move his money and heirlooms.
"-I promise no good deed
Will I attempt to do again
Ever again."
At twenty two years old, Harry Potter was living in America not that he went by that name anymore. He was more commonly known as Henry Gray. Henry because Harry was a nickname for Henry, and Gray because he was no longer the Light side icon, but he wasn't so far gone to have dabbled in Dark magic. He didn't need to use Dark magic to punish others after all, that was one thing his life as Harry Potter had taught him.
