(12-284 AV --- 4,664 AV) Not much to update in terms of progress. I have more letters to write. I'm hoping to catch up and maybe never write a letter for anyone again. We have a chance to live where death isn't around every corner. We can be normal again. I'd do anything to be able to let my guard down.

Dear Cole,

You and Elijah were the first of Maggie's people we met. You were the first of her people I felt somewhat comfortable with. We didn't get to know you for very long, but you were one of those people I immediately felt I'd be friends with. You had a sense of humor, and that's rare these days.

Like Roy and Gage, you went down in the darkness that night, dead before anyone could move to help you. I'm not sure we could've prevented it then and there. Sure, you'd probably be alive if we hadn't gone on that trip, but none of us could've predicted how badly things turned out. Elijah is the only one of you still standing. In a way, I hope that makes you proud of him. I don't plan to let anything happen to him while I can still help it.

Dear Frost,

In a similar way to Cole, we didn't know each other but I feel we would've gotten along. Shane told me what happened to you, that they tortured you in order to find the rest of us. He told me how hard you fought to keep your mouth shut, that you probably wouldn't have cracked at all if not for Daryl interrogating you himself and giving you an opportunity. I was told you pointed them in the direction of the satellite house, but not directly to it. You played it smart so you technically didn't lie but you also gave us a chance. I guess Pope decided to kill you anyway, that he decided you had no more use for him. I wish we could've been there to do something about it. Either way, I have to thank you for your loyalty to Maggie and for enduring everything you did to protect us.

Dear Duncan,

We had only known each other two or three days. We met the day we left for Meridian, and by the third day of the trip, you were dead. It surprised me, to be honest. You'd have likely made it out if not for the Reaper's targeting. They went for you the most because you were easily the strongest of us.

I know you had a good relationship with Hershel. He was hurt to hear you were gone. I hardly spoke to you but I respected you so much. You were one of those people that you know is friendly and kind despite your intimidating appearance. I would've liked for you to get to the Commonwealth, but honestly, Maggie chose not to go and you'd have been loyal to her to the very end. I really respect that.

Dear Agatha,

I feel like we could've saved you. We were in the woods. We could've run if not for half of us being injured. Maggie was so distraught to see you go right in front of her. And like all of the others, I know you were loyal to her. You would've died for her a million times over if it meant she got to live. I respected your loyalty so much. We might not have agreed on everything in those first few days of the trip, but in the end, we were on the same side. It was terrible to see you go.

I thrust my knife upwards through the jaw of the walker closest to me, killing it before it could touch me. Daryl acted similarly to the other walker before shouting, "Clear!"

From down the hallway, coming in our direction, Maggie yelled back, "Clear!"

I couldn't begin to guess what this building had been before it started rotting, but as of now, it was acting as our cover against Lance and his army.

The three of us pressed up against the wall, each peeking out through the window. In the street, we saw Lance as well as a number of soldiers, shooting down walkers like it was nothing. Lance was beyond angry. He was beyond negotiating. There was no way to end this without killing him.
