(DAY 058) There was a fire down the road last night. A house only a couple away from Phillip and I caught fire. It was horrifying.

It was still light outside when it happened. In fact, it was only about an hour after I finished my last entry. I don't know what exactly happened, but I heard from the gossip that the couple living in the house had gotten into a fight and one of them threw something and knocked over a candle but neither of them noticed until it was already up in flames. It wasn't a big fire, though. It was only in their living room and it didn't even get far. Their couch caught on fire and was burnt, and the rug started to get engulfed as well, but that was it before they started putting it out and calling for help. Phillip hadn't prepared for a situation like that. There was no fire department set up anymore.

He was up all night last night, worrying about what else could go wrong and how to fix it before it happened. He even asked me for some suggestions, and I suggested that he get some sleep and worry about it in the morning. Of course, he ignored that. He started getting flustered and muttering stuff to himself. It looked like he was on the brink of insanity at that second. It was kinda scary. Again, I asked him to come to bed and told him I'd help him figure everything out in the morning. He really didn't like that idea but gave up.

When I woke up this morning, I saw that he had already gotten up and was working on coming up with new plans. After investigating for a solid ten minutes, I found out that he waited until I fell asleep and then got up and started working again. I gave up trying to get him to calm down. He's still going at it right now. He needs sleep but he's too worked up. I have a shift in a half hour so I decided to write all this and then try one last time to calm him down.

I have to go. He's getting angry and shaky.

Signing out,

I bounced Eddie on my knee, managing to turn the page of his new favorite book with a single hand, my other one holding onto him to keep him up straight. The second I flipped to a new page, he giggled and grabbed the book from my grasp, bringing it to his face as if he was reading. He babbled incoherent words to himself.

"Good job, Eddie," I cheered in a gleeful voice, ruffling his full head of blond hair. He gave me a half-toothy grin and flipped the page again himself. I rested my chin on top of his head.

I watched in dazed happiness as he pretended to read, or maybe he believed he was reading at this point. He was only eighteen months old and had only said a few choice words, his very first one being 'horse', which had come out more as 'hose' than anything. He also greatly enjoyed making 'bike sounds', mimicking the sound of Daryl's bike every time it started up, as well as meowing back at Dixie with every given opportunity.

Just as Eddie flipped to the final page of his book, Conner walked into the house. I glanced at him, assuming he had shown up to say something as he paused in the doorway. Shortly, he confirmed that I was right.

"Daryl's ready to go if you are," he stated, gesturing with a backward thumb toward the gates. I sighed in remembrance, recalling the trip we were taking today.

It wasn't just Daryl and me, but a huge group of us. We were going to the Smithsonian Museum in Washington D.C. to find some farming supplies, or rather, models of supplies to produce more. We were hoping to find old plows to replicate and maybe even a wagon. I had never personally been to the museum so I had no clue what to expect.
