DAY 655) We're still on the road. There's nothing new, but I realized that I have a few 'letters' to write to people we've lost, so I might as well do that. I now have Beth, Hershel, Phillip, and Bob to write for. Bob would probably be the fastest to write for.Dear Bob,
You were part of our group for a while. I don't remember when you got to the prison, but I remember meeting you. We weren't really all that close, but you mattered to me. You mattered to all of us. I know Sasha misses you a lot, and we all do, really. I wasn't there when you passed away, and I'm a bit thankful that I wasn't there, just because it would've been hard to see. I noticed you were missing when I walked out of the church, and I was looking around a bit for you when I walked through the woods. Of course, you being missing was pretty much the last thing on my mind when I was taken, and I had practically forgotten about it.
I'm sure you didn't care whether I was there or not, but either way, I'm sorry for what happened. I was told that you got bit on the trip to get food and that the people from Terminus got you while you were outside, ate your leg, and returned you to the church. It's horrible, horrifying that living people could do something like that to someone, let alone you. You were a sweet man and caring. You didn't deserve what happened to you. We can't do anything now, but still. We miss you.
Rest in peace, Bob Stookey.
Signing out,
Cory Jenner
<<<The sky was normal, yet it felt darker around us. I didn't understand how it could, but it did. Listening to Gabriel's words, it felt like we were standing in the middle of a lightless field. I watched as Maggie took a step forward and shoveled a single scoop of dirt, laying it over the ground where his body was buried.
"We look not at what can be seen, but we look at what cannot be seen," Gabriel read, speaking outright like any of it mattered to anyone. Maggie handed the shovel to Glenn, and he did the same as she had done.
Gabriel continued reading from his bible, reading passages or verses or whatever it was that people read at funerals. I tried to listen along, but my mind couldn't focus. I was tired. We all were.
"For what can be seen is temporary, but what cannot be seen is eternal."
Glenn passed the shovel to Shane, and Shane passed the shovel to Merle, who did his part and then handed it to me. I stepped forward, shoving the shovel into the dirt to get a scoop. I dumped it in the same place as everyone else had, then handed the shovel to Daryl.
"For we know that if the earthly tent we live in is destroyed, we have a building from God, a house not made from hands, eternal in the heavens. In the heavens."
Merle, Shane, and I waited until Daryl did the same thing before we all walked away, following the rest of the crowd as we headed back to wherever we were going. Gabriel's words faded out on us the further we walked. It was almost haunting, knowing that we'd never-
"Stay awake, Cory," Carl whispered, nudging me on the arm. "They're almost back."
I was momentarily confused, unsure where I was or why I was being warned to not fall asleep. I didn't even remember why I was falling asleep in the first place until I looked around, disappointed. I didn't expect to come back to reality and be saved, but coming back and seeing the same shit was just plain annoying.
The group, aside from Daryl, Merle, Maggie, and Sasha, was sat outside our vehicle, waiting. The four of them had gone looking for anything to eat or drink, and judging by their faces as they came down the road in front of us, it hadn't gone well.
