(DAY 096) Have you ever heard the song "I Hope You Dance" by Lee Ann Womack? Yeah, Merle and Daryl would kill me if they had to hear it one more time. It wasn't really one of my favorite songs, but it would play on the radio a lot when I first met them, and Merle hated it the first time he heard it, calling it 'some sad, hopeful shit'. He called it those words exactly every single time it came on. "Oh, goddamn it, it's that sad, hopeful shit again." I found it amusing how annoyed he got when it would come on, despite how meaningful the lyrics are.

So, just for fun, I bought the album all for the one song and would sneak it into the truck radio when neither boy was looking, turn the volume up high, and turn it to that track. The look on their faces killed me every time. By the millionth time I had done it, I knew the song by heart and eventually started belting along the lyrics with it, and after a while started doing it in random moments. We'd be sitting in the living room, watching Daryl play the PlayStation or something, and I'd just break into the first line of the song.

"I hope you never lose your sense of wonder", man would that single sentence give Merle a conniption. Daryl didn't really hate the song, he just hated when it came on because of how much it annoyed Merle. I think it eventually it stopped annoying Merle and just became more of a joke. But the lyrics are as follows:

"I hope you never lose your sense of wonder
You get your fill to eat but always keep that hunger
May you never take one single breath for granted
God forbid love ever leave you empty-handed

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance
Never settle for the path of least resistance
Livin' might mean takin' chances, but they're worth takin'
Lovin' might be a mistake, but it's worth makin'

Don't let some Hellbent heart leave you bitter
When you come close to sellin' out, reconsider
Give the heavens above more than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance

I hope you still feel small when you stand beside the ocean
Whenever one door closes I hope one more opens
Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance

Dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance
I hope you dance."

God, what I'd do to see the boys again and just say that first line, to see Merle growing 'angry' and Daryl preparing to throw my CD out the window. The day I see them again... I don't even know what I'll do.

Signing out,

I chucked my duffel bag into the back of the blue truck. Knowing damn well that things were going to get hectic in moments, I triple-checked that my gun was loaded and that I had a good amount of ammo with me (though not all of my ammo) as I started backing away from the vehicle. There was a plan, that plan being something I was unaware of, but I didn't necessarily care at the moment. I just needed to shoot the walkers and not die. Another important step in the plan was to make sure no one else died.
