Chapter 11: Sleepover

Max's pov

I wasn't sure how I felt about going to the sleepover not gonna lie. I mean, I did have sleepovers with Sam before back in california.

The only reason my mom let me is because I had no friends. It sounds sad I know. But she genuinely wanted to have at least one friend. At first she hesitated and didn't agree since it was a boy

She then told Neil that I was going to a sleepover with a girl in my class so he doesn't get mad because we're arte he wouldn't let me. Not only wouldn't agree, he would hit me just because of the thought of going

I just wore a simple thin sweatshirt with jeans. I put a few clothes in my bag, toothbrush and brush and also my headphones. I would only stay there for the weekend so I didn't need many stuff

Then it hit me. What would my mom tell Neil? What would I tell Neil? I can't just tell him the truth. He beat me up yesterday for seeing lucas. I know it's because of his skin color but still

Maybe if I just tell him that lucas won't be there. It hurts me to say that lie but I had to. I zipped my bag and walked out of my room. Turns out Neil just came back from work,a bottle of beer in his hand

As always.. My heart started racing at the sight of him. He looks like a zombie when he's drunk. "Hello maxine" he said tiredly but with a weird look on his face.

"hi" I said avoiding eye contact as I walked to the kitchen to drink water before leaving. My mom was in kitchen cleaning. We made eye contact.

"I'm going, bye mom" I said., "bye, have fun! Just be careful please" she said. I nodded. As I was about to leave I turned around. "What are we gonna tell Neil?" I asked.

"I'll take care of it" she said. "Are you sure? I don't want him to hurt you" I said. She nodded. I walked towards the door, my mom following me knowing that Neil would of course be asking

"where are you going young little girl" he said. He looked like he was about to pass out from how much he's been drinking. "oh to a sleepover, I've let her, it's all good" my mom said smiling, resting her arm on Neil's shoulder.

It disgusted how my mom would like him at the first place. She doesn't like him now but she has no other choice.

"which friend?" he asked. "just a classmate" I said, not wanting to mention their names. I don't want them to get in trouble. We've slowly gotten closer, the boys and I.

"is it a boy?" he asked. I didn't say anything. "No, her name is.." I said as I paused. I was so nervous that my dumbass couldn't think of a simple girl name in the world. "Julia, she's from my class" I said. He stared at me and started laughing

"Oh you little liar" he laughed. I frowned. "honey shes not lying" my mom said. "Why would she have a friend?" he scoffed. I was so tired of this. He keeps making fun of me and mocking me about me not having friends. It's too much now, it hurts

I really didn't care anymore for not having friends. But deep down it minded me because who wants not to have friends. Friends are so important in life

"well I do have" I said. He scoffed. "okay sure, if I see you with that boy again I don't know what will happen" he said pointing at me as he glared at me

I nodded. "alright get the hell out of here, when are you coming back?" he asked. It was Friday afternoon right now. "Sunday at around 16:00 pm" I answered

"okay" he said not caring. He then walked to the living room sitting on his armchair as usual. Without second thought I left the house, holding back tears.

I felt weak for tearing up with every of his word. I then put my skateboard down to the ground, trying not to cry. I'm just piece of trash I guess

"hey max" I heard my mom's voice as I was about to skate. I turned around. "let me give you a ride, I'm guessing the place you're going to is far from here" she said

"I think it's like 10 minutes to get there by walking or skating I don't know, I'm not sure" I said. "Get in the car, it's okay honey" she said. I nodded. I took a deep breath before getting in the car, holding back tears once again because I didn't want to be weak

"did you get everything you need?" she asked. "yeah" I answered. "Please don't listen to Neil's words, I'm proud of you for making friends, socialising" she said

I was looking out of the car's window. I didn't say anything. "thanks" I said. We then arrived at Mike's house. Mike gave me instructions to find his house

He even made a drawing. His drawing skills weren't tee best but I at least could tell where to go so that was something

I waved to my mom and rang the door. A woman I assumed was Mike's mom opened the door. "oh hello max! come in. I'm gonna go greet your mom over there if you don't mind, you can go down the basement" she said smiling

I smiled back not to be rude. Why do mom's do this? They just go chat. I mean here go ahead I don't mind. I walked downstairs. I've already been here, I've came here a few times since I've met them

I could hear them speaking. "oh hey max!" Dustin said smiling. "hey" I said. "come here max, join us we're playing video games" lucas said smiling. I nodded, smiled and walked over to them

"Here take my place max, I suck at this stage" Mike said annoyed passing me the controller. I chuckled a little and grabbed it. I was playing against Dustin

"woah you're good at this!" lucas said. "what?!" Mike gasped. "how the-" Mike said loudly but Mike's mom cut him off. Apparently she was walking down the basement

She brought us snacks and drinks. "here you guys, eat whatever you want" she said smiling. We all smiled. "thank you Mrs wheeler" we all said

Then she went back upstairs as we started eating. We then watched a movie. Dustin and lucas were already asleep through the middle of the movie

Mike and I were awake. We both looked at each other and slightly giggled at the sight of the two boys sleeping. "I'm gonna head to sleep" Mike said. "me too" I said. I layed on the couch

The basement had 2 couches. Mine on the one and I had the other. The boys insisted I sleep on the couch. I've told them over than 5 times that I didn't mind sleeping on the floor but they insisted.
