Chapter 51: Going Back?

Max's pov

After crying without realising it, I fell asleep. Some noise woke me up. I opened my eyes frowning, after a second I recognised the voices. It was Neil and Billy once again arguing like usual. I got used to this but it still bothers me

What are they even arguing for?, I thought. They argue all the time for no reason, it's like they like it. I just sighed tiredly, I was mostly mentally exhausted, I was tired of all this. My thoughts went back to el

How much happier I used to be, just by her presence. She saved me.. But now she's gone, she lives in california far away from Hawkins. Without noticing a tear fell, I immediately wiped it away trying not to break down again.

After they finished arguing I heard my mom yelling at me to come eat diner. I really wasn't in the mood to eat. "Mom, I'm not hungry" I tried to yell back. Why was I suddenly so exhausted? Like sure it happened many times before but it was like it hit me all at once like a wave

My mom didn't respond, I just hoped she heard. I grabbed a magazine el gave me and started reading it. I always did read magazines or comics she gives, because it brings me comfort even if I've more than 3 times

It made me feel connected to her somehow. I don't know it probably sounds stupid. We also got each other a notebook, more like a diary and we told each other we would write things in it, our feelings, how our day was etc, like I said a diary.

Suddenly after about 5 minutes someone bursted into my room roughly and loudly. I was so focused on reading the magazine and thinking about el that I didn't expect it. Not giving me time to process everything Neil already grabbed me harshly by my collar angrily

"It's diner time you dumb fuck! Don't you have ears?!" he yelled at my face, inches apart as he accidentally spited on me making me grossed out. "I-i told heard and I-I said I wasn't hungry-" I said shakily in fear. He scoffed. "yeah you're not hungry, you probably went out as we were gone huh?" he said

I frowned. "w-what? No I didn't leave the house-" I said and he punched my waist making me groan. "Come eat! We brought food, get your ass in the kitchen now before i-" he said. I already knew what he meant. "Beat your ass" he finished after as second louder this time, making sure I heard him

I nodded and he finally let me go, letting me breath again. He got out of the room. My heart was racing, I could feel my eyes getting watery but I couldn't cry in front of them and I felt physically hurt, I touched my waist where he punched me at and groaned as I tried to hold back tears.

I finally got out of my room and went at the diner table. They were already sitting there waiting for me. I didn't even say hello I just sat down. "What happened to hello?" Billy said. I sighed. "hi" I said. "sorry I didn't hear you?" he teased again. "Hi" I said forcefully a bit louder

"what did you say-" Billy tried to mock me again but my mom spoke up. "Anyways, let's eat" she said and I could tell she was trying to remain calm. Then we started eating.

*meanwhile in california*

El's pov

Will and I were playing video games together because we were bored. "Why do i keep losing!" I groaned as he chuckled. "I'm just better" will shrugged. I rolled my eyes playfully.

"Did max write back to you?" he suddenly asked after a minute. I blushed and froze hearing her name for some reason. Her name melted my heart. What am I saying?

"Oh um, not yet" I said. He looked at me and nodded. "I'm sure it's getting sent" he said as if he's trying to convince me. "Yeah probably-" I said still unsure. "max would never treat you like Mike, Mike may didn't write to you back then but I'm sure max will, it takes some time to arrive in california anyways, we both know max" he said smiling softly at me

I smiled back hoping he was right and that max wasn't ignoring me. I was so terrified of losing her. Just like it happened with Mike when he rarely wrote back to me. "yeah I know" I said smiling. The game ended, we looked at each other "another round?" he asked, I nodded.

Suddenly Joyce called us to eat diner. We all sat down etc all good. Suddenly hopper cleared his throat catching our attention. We all looked at him. "So um.. We have some news" he started. Will, Jonathan and I immediately looked at each other hoping it's what we thought of

"Are we going to Hawkins for summer this time?" Jonathan asked. "Or in Hawkins in general" will said. "hey, hold on let me speak" hopper said calm as Jonathan and will nodded. "I was talking with a friend of mine from Hawkins and he told me about a job that he thought might be good for Joyce-" he said

Our eyes light up knowing what was next. "And we uh-we thought about it, I'll still work as a chief just like I do here so we thought of maybe going back, since that's what you kids want, it's gonna he a little hard but we'll make it work" hopper said.

The three of us couldn't stop smiling. We all excitedly stood up and ran to hug them. They chuckled hugging back not expecting this sudden hug. "Thank you" we all said. I could feel my eyes tearing up at the thought of seeing my friends again.. Seeing max.. God how much i missed her

"when are we leaving?" Jonathan asked after we pulled away. "Um, probably next Friday, in a week" Joyce said. We all smiled. "So it's the last week with your new friends" he said. We nodded. I mean, I do feel bad for leaving them because they're good friends but I have not only friends but family in Hawkins

I'm sure Austin and chloe will understand, yet chloe will be happy for me.
