This story takes place in season 2- season 3.Hopper and Billy are alive. The Byers, hopper and el moved to california for a "New start". Max couldn't help but wonder who that girl named el was.. (I'm not good at the descriptions ik💀😭)
Joyce had no choice but to go back home. She was worried the whole ride as she was driving. She just sensed something about that man
He smelled like alcohol, definitely was drunk etc. She was thinking of asking el about it but didn't think she would know plus didn't want to make her worried as well because maybe Joyce is overthinking the situation.
El's pov
Even though I'm going to see max again tomorrow I still missed her. I just laid on my bed, not knowing what to do. Suddenly will walked into our room. "hey" he said.
"hey" I said still staring at the ceiling. "is everything alright?" he asked frowning. I looked up and nodded. "is max gone?" he asked. "well as you can see" I said. He rolled his eyes
"you've been hanging out with max a lot, it's obvious" he joked giggling as el grabbed a pillow and threw it on him as he dramatically gasped. "Don't act like that hurt" el said giggling
*the next day*
We woke up at 9 so we can to to the picnic we've planned out. (I love going to picnics, I think it's kinda obvious since I always include a picnic chapter in every book I post😍😂anyways I'll shut up)
We wanted to go early in the morning so the weather isn't too hot at that time. We were supposed to meet up there at 10
I've been staring at my closet for 5 minutes, going through my clothes not knowing what to war. On the other hand, will was alright ready
He wore blue shirt jeans with a simple t-shirt. He sat on the edge of his bed waiting for me to get ready. "come on el we don't have much time" he complained
I didn't say anything and kept going through my clothes. "just wear something, it's just our friends" will said annoyed. "unless you're trying to impress anyone" he said but I could tell he was smirking
I turned around to look at him and i was right. He was jokingly, teasing me for some reason. "what's that supposed to mean? I'm not trying to impress anyone mike and I broke up" I said frowning
He rolled his eyes. "I'm not talking about Mike obviously" he said. Then I was even more confused. "then who were you talking about?" I asked. He sighed. "whatever no one I was just joking around, just wear something please" he said
I frowned and turned back to my closet. After about a minute I picked out an outfit and turned to look at him and show him. I was holding up a pair of blue baggy jeans and a white crop top

"Is it good??" I asked him. He stared at the outfit for a second like he's examining it or something. "It's nice I like it" he said. "Are you saying it just so we can leave or do you truly like it?" I asked raising an eyebrow
He stared at me for a second. "both, no like I'm being honest that's a nice outfit" he said. I nodded and went to the bathroom so I can change
*time skip, picnic time*
Max's pov
I arrived at the park where the picnic would be at. I noticed Mike, lucas there. The others weren't there yet. Looks like they already set down the blankets etc
"hey" I said. "hey" they both said. "where are the others?" I asked disappointed because el wasn't there yet, kind of nervous she wouldn't come after all
"we don't know, okay will and el it's kind of expected to be late but Dustin is a little concerning if you asked me" Mike said. I mean he's not wrong
"That's true, Dustin is rarely late" lucas agreed. I sat down on the blankets which were planed on the grass. "What did you bring?" Mike asked me glancing at the bag I was holding
Of course we all wouldn't bring 2-3 snacks/food/drinks each. "I brought the drinks like we said" I said. They nodded.
*time skip, after about 5 minutes*
Dustin was the one who arrived after about 5 minutes. "dude we thought you died" lucas joked. He was kind of running so he was slightly out of breath
"im so sorry, my mom and I went to the grocery store to buy the snacks but my mom was arguing with an employee because they ran ort of cat food" Dustin said between breaths
We all looked at each other and bursted out laughing. Dustin frowned. "what's so funny?" Dustin asked. "sorry-but your mom was arguing with an employee because the store ran out of cat food? How is that their fault" I asked through laughs as Mike and lucas did as well
"of course it's their fault, it's been a week without cat food and it's the only grocery store near us" Dustin said. "okay okay"i said.
After about 5 more minutes will and el appeared. I was the first who noticed them because the 3 boys were too busy looking what they brought with them etc while I kept checking around every minute to see if they came
Once el and will were closer to us I could manage to see her better. She was wearing a really cute outfit. I just kept staring at her, admiring how beautiful, gorgeous, pretty and many more she is from afar. I was staring at her for too long that I should have until el and will waved at me
I immediately waved back feeling stupid for staring at my best friend like that. I stood up and el ran to hug me dropping the bag she was holding on the grass. I hugged back and couldn't help but smile
She even smelled good. I noticed my cheeks turning red. "damn max, why are you so red" will joked. I turned to look at him. "What? Oh trust me will it's so hot right now and you know I'm sensitive to the sun more" I said
"Yeah sure" he said. I frowned. Why was he acting like that. Suddenly el grabbed something from her bag. It was a pair of white sunglasses. "See I've thought of that and brought you sunglasses" she said handing them to me
I was in awe. Has she really thought of that?, I thought. "oh my god, thank you so much you didn't have to" I said softly
"Of course I had to, gotta protect those beautiful blue eyes" she said giggling. Her comment made me blush even more.
"thank you ma'am" I joked going along. She laughed. "Hey girls stop flirting and come sit down we're hungry" Dustin said
El and I both looked at each other, slightly blushing. "what we're not-" I said but Dustin cut me off. "yeah yeah sure, I'm joking just sit down jeez" dustin said.
"I really like your outfit it's so cute" I said. "thank you" she said smiling and shyly. "your's cute too, it looks great on you" she said making me smile once again as I thanked her. It's a simple outfit but oh well.
