Chapter 23: Mileven Talk

El's pov

I told dustin that I would go over to his house since Mike's there too after eating breakfast to get over with it

Max and I sat down to eat. It was quiet for a minute. Max seemed a bit upset for some reason. "are you okay?" I asked sensing the mood

She looked up. "yeah why would I be?" she asked trying to play it cool. I stared at her for a second as she stared back at me.

"you seem off maxie.. What's up?" I asked gently grabbing her hand. She stared at our hands as I noticed her cheeks slightly red but payed no attention to it cause I was worried about why she looked upset

"I'm okay, really" she said. "did I.. Do anything-" I asked quietly as she cut me off. "what?! No you didn't do anything why would you think that" she said as I shrugged

"Is it about Mike?" I asked not giving up. She didn't say anything. "I'm just.. Worried about him hurting your feelings again once you walk inside Dustin's home where Mike is at as well" she finally said what she was thinking about

I didn't know what to say. "ill be fine max, you don't have to worry about it, I'm already hurt plus I just want to get over it because he really wants to talk and won't give up" I said

She nodded slowly. We then just talked about stuff as we were eating.

*time skip, after breakfast*

"let's go get ready" I told max but she looked at me confused. "wait, I'm coming with you?" she asked. I frowned. "I-yeah I don't want to leave you alone only if you want to-" I said. "oh yeah it's okay I want to come I just thought you would want privacy as you speak to him I mean-obviously you two will talk privately together-" she stuttered

"I understand what you're saying max" I said slightly smiling at her. She smiled back slightly nervously. "alright then, let's go get ready" she said as I nodded.

After we got ready we hopped on Max's bike and headed to Dustin's house. We knocked on the door. Dustin was the one who opened the door, he smiled when he saw us

"Hey! Come in girls" he said smiling, we couldn't help but smile back as we walked in. We followed him to the living room to see Mike including lucas sitting there playing video games

Mike stared at me as soon as he saw me. "el-" he started. "let's just go talk Mike" interrupted slightly annoyed but trying not to be so rude.. But it kind of was now that I think about it

But I couldn't care less after what he did. He nodded looking scared yet relieved. "woah Mike the hell did you do to make el speak like that she's the most innocent girl-" lucas said confused as a joke but Dustin hit his arm as lucas groaned in pain

"Can we go to your room Dustin?" Mike asked him. "yeah of course" Dustin replied we nodded and went to Dustin's room leaving the boys and max in the living room (will was with Jonathan in case you forgot)

Mike closed the door when we walked in. "Explain yourself" I told him getting straight to the point. He opened his mouth but no words came out. I frowned

"look-what I did was so stupid I know and I shouldn't have done it" he started. "how did you like will?" I asked. "I don't like will" he said frowning playing dumb

I raised my eyebrows not believing what I just heard. "huh? Sorry Mike but last time I checked will was the guy you cheated on me with..?" I said dumbfounded

"I-I don't know what I was thinking" he said. "Do you like him or not? Because I don't think it's just the moment thing, I may be dumb and not understand things easily but even me understood" I said

"don't call yourself dumb" he said. I sighed. "I don't know what I was thinking, I-I'm not how I feel about will but I didn't mean to hurt your feelings-" he stuttered

"you could have told me instead of cheating on me" I said. "I know-" he said. "can you just he honest with me for a minute Mike?!" I said getting upset yet mad

He frowned. "I'm being honest though?" he said. "Just-tell me how long you've had those feelings towards will, was it before we've moved to california?" I asked

"No-I think I was just confused with my feelings after you guys left.. It was so confusing and I didn't want to admit it-" he said. "is that why you never wrote to me?!" I asked quietly as I felt my eyes getting watery and a pinch in my heart

"No-I just-I don't why I did that, okay? I seriously don't know el, I promise you had nothing to do with it, you've done nothing wrong it's all on me I promise" he said.

I didn't know what to say. "okay" I said as he looked at me confused and frowned. "okay?" he said. "what do you want me to say exactly? What am I supposed to say after all these? I'm not good enough for you, you've got feelings for will and it's okay but deep down its not okay considering the fact that you cheated on me when you

could have simply talked to me about it, I would understand no matter how upset and mad at you for lying to me but I would still understand, you made it go that way" I said as he stared at me in shock.

"I'm sorry-" he said. "alright we're done talking, thanks for 'explaining' yourself" I said slightly sarcastically. "so are you breaking up with me?" he asked the most dumb question ever as I was about to walk out

I turned around slowly in shock. "I'm sorry but.. What?! Of course I broke up with you I thought it was quite obvious the moment I caught you cheating Mike? What's that question" I said

"right sorry.." He said. "before I go, what did you tell our friends about us breaking up?" I asked. "I-I told them that you're mad at me but I didn't them them why or anything no matter how much they insisted to know" he said

I nodded. "I don't want them to know-" he said. "I know" I said. "Im not gonna tell them the truth, tell them when you're ready" I said. He smiled at me, I forced a smile

"alright I'm gonna go" I said as I walked out of the room. The party was still in the living room. They were playing video games. Max was playing against lucas as they were laughing

I felt a pinch of jealousy for some reason but ingored it. Dustin frost noticed us coming back. "oh hey, is everything okay? Did you work things out?" Dustin asked

Lucas and max turned immediately around to look at us. Max was looking directly at me for a couple of seconds looking worried yet slightly scared

I could tell she was trying to see if I'm okay so I just smiled slightly to convince her I'm fine. "Did you break up? What happened" lucas asked. Mike and I looked at each other

"oh um.. Yeah we did, it was my fault" Mike said. My eyes widened slightly thinking he would say the truth. But, there's now way, I thought

"I-i messed up by not writing to her while they were gone plus we both decided we're better as friends" Mike said. I thought we would just tell them only that we decided to stay just friends but sure I guess

"Oh.. Okay" they said still confused. I looked at max, she was staring at the ground for a couple of seconds. I caught her smiling slightly as she looked relieved. It's probably because she doesn't want me to feel upset or anything, I thought

Why would she be happy about the fact that Mike and I broke up? I didn't really pay attention to it. She looked up at me catching me staring as I looked away immediately
