Chapter 34: Back To California

El's pov

We arrived back at to california. We first stopped to something before going straight at home. All of us were tired.

"I'm gonna take a nap when we get home" hopper said yawning. We came back on Friday and school spring break finishes on Monday so we would go back to school on Monday unfortunately

I couldn't help but imagine how cool and nice it would be to go go the same school as my friends. See them every day, hang out. Going to school with our friends and we'll... Max sounded so fun no matte how bad school is

But no, we had to come back to california. Don't mind me, I like chloe and Austin but it's not the same. Anyways, we ordered food and started eating in silence

"come on kids, don't be so quiet" Joyce said softly. Will, Jonathan and I exchanged a look. "for real kid, you guys weren't acting like this when we went to california in the first place" hopper said

"It's different, we got really upset but we understood the reasons at first and now we told you we don't mind staying in Hawkins no matter what happened in the past but you ingore us" will said.

Joyce and hopper stared at him. I could tell they were a bit shocked because will doesn't really talk back. "we just want you guys to be safe and not he surrounded by all those bad memories in that house" hopper said sighing

"you kids will see each other again calm down. You think it's hard  for us too?" hopper said. "apparently not hard enough" Jonathan muttered under his breath. "What did you say?" hopper asked. "nothing" Jonathan replied

"Guys.. You are going to go back to school, talk with your friends. You're not alone, you will exchange letters, calls etc, it'll be fine" Joyce said. "It's not the same mom.. We could see them every day at school like old times, do you know how much i miss the old times with the boys" will said

I felt bad for will because of everything that had happened to him in the upside down and all. I mean I lost my childhood too for a really long time but will has suffered too.

Joyce stayed quiet as she looked down at her plate. "I know you missed the old times honey.. I know" Joyce said. Will sighed. "Doesn't look like it mom, we could-" will said but hopper cut him off. "enough! Let's just eat, we've had this conversation before" hopper said

Neither of us said something. They just don't understand. They don't get it. Then we continued eating.

*after at home*

We unpacked everything and stuff. In california will and I didn't share a room like in hawkins. (a/n: at least as far as I remember, idk if I mentioned anything about it in the previous chapters so sorry if I'm wrong, and yes my dumbass forgets some stuff I wrote sometimes😍👏)

I finished packing my stuff, put all of my clothes in the closet. I just sat on my bed. I opened my backpack and took all of the stuff i had inside it.

Our friends and I exchanged some stuff to each other, like small gifts for fun. Especially because we wouldn't see each other in a really long time. Max gave me a few comics and magazines. I told her not to because they were hers but she insisted a lot so I agreed

After I put all or the comics and magazines on the drawer next to me before I stared at them, thinking about my favourite ginger girl who was not there for me as I held back tears.

Then I also noticed a purple  scrunchie. Max knows my favourite color is purple which melts my hearts when people remember details about me. It makes me feel like they listen to me, that I'm being noticed. I don't know if that makes sense.

I  gave her mine as well one day. I also found a hat Dustin gave me which I found it a bit funny because it had a couple of fruites on it, he saw it in a store when we went all together at the mall and wanted to buy it for me for fun

I didn't even notice I started crying . A few tears started falling down my face. I may have been dramatic by all this but I really did miss them. And the fact that I wouldn't see them for god knows how long broke my heart

Then I thought of max.. The way she looked at lucas. And how lucas was looking at her. They were smiling and laughing together. I just wanted it to be me. I don't even know if she will accept me for who I am

Because they say its a sin, disgusting. I don't even know what would happen if Dustin didn't interrupt us. I was about to tell her how I feel.

I don't know I just could feel the tension when we almost kissed. But I was wrong, I was just being a delusional and stupid for thinking she would like girls and especially like me...

After a few minutes of just laying on the bed staring at the ceiling for no reason. I didn't have motivation to do anything. Someone knocked on the door. I sighed thinking it would he hopper or Joyce. Will, Jonathan and I were still a bit mad at them

"yes?" I asked. The door opened, fortunately it was will. "hey" he said quietly standing in the doorway . "Can I come in" he asked. I nodded. He walked in and closed the door behind him.

He sat on the edge of my bed as I sat up as well. "you okay?" he asked. "Um not so good but it's better than before, what about you?"  I said. "same" he replied. I nodded. "so.. What happened with max" he asked. "if you want to tell me of course-" he said a hit anxious because I kind of froze hearing her name

"no it's fine, I'll tell you. Nothing really happened. I was just about to tell her because deep down I was hoping there would be a small chance of her liking me back. I could.. Kind of feel like she wanted to kiss me in the bathroom but she told me later that she didn't mean to lean in and apologised.. "I said looking away as I fidgetted with the string of my ripped jeans.

" I don't think she meant that el.. Believe it or not I think she likes you back. I feel it, the way she looks at you. How sweet and soft she is to you. I'm not saying she's mean to everyone else but she's acting differently with you" he said. I smiled a little deep down hoping he was right

"Lucas keeps flirting with her.. I saw them sitting together smiling and laughing and all so yeah..." I said. He didn't say anything.
