Chapter 74: Coming out to friends

Max's pov

We went back home. Seems like the guys have already arrived. "Hey!!" they all said. They were all sitting in the living room. "hey! Who opened the door for you guys?" joyce asked smiling while frowning

"Oh Jonathan" Lucas replied. We all nodded. "Is he in his room or did he leave for college?" Joyce asked. "in his room,he'll leave in a bit" Lucas replied as Joyce nodded.

the four guys stood up to hug us. "Are you okay?" they asked in sync after the hugs. "yeah I'm okay" I said smiling. "Come on let's sit down" El said as joyce went to the kitchen

we all sat down on the couches. "so up..do you wanna talk about it?" Lucas asked hesitantly. "If you're uncomfortable by doing so it's okay-" will softly said. "No it's okay, you guys are my best friends " I said smiling then I told them everything etc

"Damn max..I wish we knew.." they all said sadly. "it's okay don't feel bad,there was nothing to do anyways,plus I was being threatened " I said

"Yeah true but we could have helped you,most importantly call the police without Neil knowing" Lucas said. "It's not that simple..I couldn't" I said as they nodded not insisting

"At least Neil is in jail now and he cannot hurt anyone anymore" Mike tried to cheer us up as we nodded. Out of habit el grabbed my hand as she was sitting next to me. We noticed Will looking at us and without thinking we both dropped our hands remembering that we were with the boys

the others didn't seem to notice because they were talking by themselves. Will also looked away seeming like he didn't want to make us uncomfortable. Let's just hope he didn't suspect anything..

*time skip, a few months later*

It's been months since el and I have been dating but we tried to hide it as much as possible. Even though El told me Will has been asking her a few times but she kept lying to him because she didn't want him to snitch on her parents (Hopper & Joyce) even though he swore he supported her

she was still scared and I get it...I haven't told my family either. But one day el and I decided we were finally ready to tell our friends. We always talk about those kinds of stuff in our friend group and we felt like it was time to do it

we were in Mike's basement as usual playing Uno. I could feel that el was nervous the whole time as I tried to hide it. I tapped softly on el's arm to catch her attention while Dustin was arguing with Lucas because he drew him a +4

She looked at me. "yeah?" she whispered. "are you okay?" I asked as she nodded. I went close to her ear. "if you're not ready to tell them it's okay I won't pressure you" I whispred in her ear so the others don't hear us

"It's okay I'm ready,i'm just nervous" She whispred back in my ear as well. "What are you guys whispering about? Are you making fun of us?" Dustin joked laughing slightly

"Yeah sure dude,i'm telling her how much you suck at uno" I joked back as the others laughed. "I dont suck at uno! Lucas just decided to destroy me today" he said jokingly

"Yeah yeah okay..well um the truth is..we wanted to tell you something " I said as I looked at el. Their faces low key dropped, confusion on their faces now

"Sure, what is it?" Lucas asked. I grabbed el's hand gently while looking at her. "So..um.." I started but no words came out. Why was it so hard? I was supposed to be the confident one
