chapter 71: The police station

Max's pov

After my mom's and el's small talk,my mom thanking el for helping us we got into the station. I didn't want to be here,but we knew we had to. It was part of the process.

we sat down and waited until they tell us to go. My mom and I decided to tell the police the entire truth. There was no point in lying anymore,we've spent our entire lives hiding this secret because we were terrified for our own lives

But we were done being scared. Neil is in jail now and that's all that matters. My mom's name was called so she stood up and left. I was nervous to be honest

suddenly el grabbed my hand. I knew we wanted to but my mom was there so we couldn't. Hopper was gone too. Speaking to some cops etc

I looked at her and smiled as she did the same. She's perfect. "are you okay?" she asked quietly. I nodded. "max" she squeezed my hand slightly

"you can talk to me,about anything" she said softly as I smiled. "I know love, I'm just nervous-even though he's in jail a part of me fears something will go wrong,he's always in the back of my mind. I-I even have nightmares sometimes" I admitted looking down

I didn't dare to look at her but I could sense she was concerned. "oh my god max,why didn't you tell me?" she asked. Not mad,genuinely concerned

"I-I don't know..I guess I was a bit ashamed-" I said. "ashamed? why love? why would you be ashamed of that you know I would never judge you" she said rubbing her thumb making butterflies fly around in my stomach once again

"I know" I said giving her a warm smile. "Well,I wanna be there for you always..on your good times and the bad ones" she said softly. "thank you el..I just didn't want to seem weak" I admitted

"Don't say that again max..you are not weak,you're the strongest person I know and I'm so proud of you max" she said. I began to feel a bit emotional at her words. She always knows how to make me feel better

"Thank you el.." I said smiling softly at her as she smiled back squeezing my hand. "everything is gonna be okay max, all you need to do left is talk to the cops and just tell them the truth, Neil is in jail, you're safe" she said smiling softly.

"yeah I know" I said smiling back. She really did make me feel better, she was distracting me so I wasn't as nervous as before. After about 2 minutes they called me. My heart dropped as I froze for a second

"hey, you got this, I wish I could come with you" she said softly smiling to encourage me. I smiled and nodded. I followed one of the cops into a room where my mom was with 2 officers

"Sit down please" the officer softly said. "We just have a few questions, there's no need to be nervous, it's part of the process. You're now safe" he said softly as I nodded smiling slightly

well, of course I was still nervous but I couldn't control it. "Your mom claimed that you came in Hawkins in November 1984 right?" he asked. I nodded. I knew that my mom told him the entire story and stuff but he still had to ask me a few questions

"when did he first hit you?" he asked. "I-I don't quite remember, I was 13, it was a few weeks after coming to Hawkins, I knew something was wrong with him since the first days. At first..he was nice and all but you could tell-that it was fake you know.." I said a bit slowly because I was nervous

He nodded. I opened my mouth to speak but no words came out. Come on max why are you being like this. "It's okay,take your time" he said. I smiled slightly as I exhaled nervously trying to calm down. I wish el was with me
