Jazz woke up the next morning, shielding his face from the sun beaming through the shades. Sitting up in the bed, he rubs the sleep from his eyes before focusing his attention on Billy, who had a styrofoam plate in his hands
"Good morning, sleepy head." Billy greeted
"What time is it?" Jazz asks
"10 minutes past 8, you overslept." Billy says
"Oh shit! If I'm late to class again, my dad will literally kill me." Jazz panicked
"Hey, calm down. I told our teachers you came down with something, so they gave you the rest of the day off." Billy explains
"Why?" Jazz asks
"Yesterday was the most relaxed I've ever seen you. I know we're supposed to be molded into the best versions of ourselves, but we're still kids. We have our whole life to figure out who we want to be. For now, I just want us to enjoy our youth." Billy rambled
"What's that smell?" Jazz asks
"It's a homecooked meal. It consists of pancakes, grits, eggs, bacon, and sausage. Courtesy of my grandmother, of course. She dropped by early this morning, delivered us some food." Billy smiled
"Let me guess, she asked about me?" Jazz chuckled
"Always! She was like how's that pretty little boyfriend of yours doing?" Billy batted his eyelashes
"Honestly, she's probably the only person in your family who isn't a complete nut job. Well, other than your father, of course." Jazz says
Billy sat down on the bed, slowly placing the food down in front of him before handing him a fork. Once Jazz said grace, he begins to stuff his mouth with every piece of food on the plate
"Hey, slow down before you get a stomach ache." Billy smiled
"Sorry, I just missed your grandmother's cooking." Jazz says
"Do you remember when she used to look after us when we were kids?" Billy asks
"Oh, I remember it all too well. We used to sneak into the kitchen and finish off the leftovers from the night before." Jazz cackled
"Yeah, but we had to tiptoe around the house in our socks. You know, any type of noise woke her up." Billy says
"Does she still bring that up?" Jazz frowned
"Unfortunately, she brings it up every chance she gets. She claims we used to eat her out a house and home. She used to call us miniature garbage disposals." Billy laughed
"That's so disrespectful." Jazz gasped
Suddenly, a knock at the door interrupted their quality time. Billy got up from the bed and answered the door, coming face to face with Vanessa, who looked like she was on the verge of tears
"Hey, what's going on?" Billy asks
"It's nothing, I just need to talk to my brother. Is he here?" Nessa asks
"Yeah, he's here. Come on in!" Billy says
"Thank you." Nessa stepped inside
"Well, I'll leave you to it. I have to go to class. Nessa, can you please look after him?" Billy asks
"Don't worry, I got you." Nessa fist bumped him
"Great! I'll see you later, then." Billy says, grabbing his bag before waving goodbye
Once Billy was out the door, Jazz turns his attention back to his sister, who was nervously rubbing her sweaty palms on her skirt
"What's going on?" Jazz asks
