It was around 2 in the morning and Jake couldn't sleep, not after hearing the letter Lexy got in the mail earlier today. For the next 30 minutes, he looked up at the ceiling until the sound of crying broke him out of his fantasy land. Turning on the lamp, he turns on the walkie-talkie and listens to his boyfriend's hysterical crying simmer before speaking.
"What's wrong, my love?" Jake asked, sitting up in the bed
"I had that nightmare again, I can't go back to sleep. Everytime I close my eyes, I see her." Devon choked up
"Hey, it's okay. Do you want me to come over? We could watch SpongeBob till you fall asleep." Jake suggested
"You'd put up with his obnoxiousness for me?" Devon giggled
"Only for you, Evans." Jake smiles
Minutes pass by and Devon gets up from the bed after hearing a knock at the door. There stood Jake, holding a stack of DVDs in his hand. Pulling him into the room, Devon threw his arms around him and cried even harder once Jake squeezed him tighter
"How long have these nightmares been going on?" Jake asked, giving him a kiss on his tear stained face
"A few months." Devon sulked, flopping down on the bed
"Dev, why didn't you tell me? I could've helped you through it." Jake held his hand
"You were gone, living the type of life you've always dreamt of having. I didn't want to ruin that." Devon whispered, tears welling up in his eyes
"Come here." Jake caved, pulling him underneath the covers and putting his arm around his waist
"Promise me you won't disappear again." Devon pleaded
"Nothing in this world could take me away from you." Jake stroked his cheek
20 minutes into SpongeBob, Devon was getting sleepy, so he laid his head on Jake's chest, causing his cheeks to turn bright pink. He intertwined their fingers, jumping after his boyfriend giggled up a storm.
"What's so funny?" Jake asked
"I'm thinking about how we used to shy around each other and now, things are different. We're in the same room watching SpongeBob, which is way darker than I remembered growing up." Devon furrowed his eyebrows
"I hate that we can't be our usual selves." Jake whined, laying his head on his
"Aren't you worried about getting into trouble?" Devon asked, playing around with his hair
"I'll deal with the consequences later, you're more important." Jake whispered
"Thank you for coming over." Devon murmured
"Anytime." Jake beamed, looking down to see his boyfriend sound asleep in his arms
The next morning, Devon's alarm went off, startling him. Wiping the sleep from his eyes, Devon looked over at Jake, who was still sound asleep.
"Jake, wake up." Devon whispered in his ear
"I don't want to go to class." Jake groaned, his husky voice sending a chill down Devon's spine
"Babe, I know you don't want to go, but you know we have to." Devon rambled, jumping back after Jake sprung up in the bed
"Did you just call me babe?" Jake smirked, running his fingers through his messy curls
"Shut up." Devon rolled his eyes, getting up from the bed to use the bathroom
"Say it again." Jake grinned
