The next morning, Lexy woke up to find Nadine already awake, with her bed made and her stuffed animals arranged neatly. Rubbing the sleep from her eyes, Lexy sat up in the bed, watching as Nadine fussed with the curtains, allowing a stream of sunlight to pour into their small, cozy room. The gentle morning light revealed the red marks on Nadine's cheek, and Lexy's heart ached for her.
"C'mere, kitten." Lexy whispered, her voice still heavy with sleep as she intently watched her girlfriend drag herself across the room to Lexy's side of the room, her duck slippers quacking beneath the floorboards
"I don't want you to start treating me like I'm some damsel in distress, Lexy. I'm not a porcelain doll that needs constant coddling. It's as if everyone walks on eggshells around me, afraid that I'll shatter at the slightest touch. I can take care of myself, you know." Nadine sniffed, trying to sound tougher than she felt
"I know, Nadine. I know you're strong, and I know you're capable. But sometimes, even the strongest among us need a little help, and that's okay. You don't have to be perfect, kitten. You're allowed to be vulnerable, and I'll be here to catch you when you fall." Lexy said, her voice full of warmth and understanding
"I understand, Lexy. I'm just not used to having someone worry about me. I've always been the one worrying about everyone else." Nadine sighed, resting her head on Lexy's shoulder
"You don't have to be the strong one all the time, Nadine. We're a team, and we're in this together. You're the calm to my storm, and I wouldn't have it any other way." Lexy smiled, stroking Nadine's hair gently
"Can you do me a favor, Cinderella?" Nadine asked, her voice laced with a hint of mischief
"What's that, my little bobcat?" Lexy chuckled, playing along with Nadine's playful tone
"Can you kiss me? Kiss me like you'll never let me go, like the world is ending, and we're the only two people left? Kiss me like you mean it, Lexy. Kiss me like you love me." Nadine's eyes sparkled with a mixture of vulnerability and determination
Without a second thought, Lexy closed the distance between them, her lips meeting Nadine's in a searing kiss that stole the very breath from her lungs. She poured every ounce of love, every shred of devotion she held for the girl beneath her into that single, perfect moment. Nadine melted into the kiss, her hands coming up to tangle in Lexy's hair as she deepened the contact. She could feel the heat of Lexy's skin against her own, could taste the salt of her tears as they mingled on their tongues. In that instant, nothing else mattered - not the cuts on her cheek, not her father's cruelty, not the fear that had been her constant companion for so long. There was only Lexy, and the love that burned between them like a supernova. They clung to each other as they kissed, desperate and a little frantic, as if they were trying to crawl inside each other's skin and never let go. Lexy's hands roamed over Nadine's body, mapping out every curve and hollow, committing her to memory. She wanted to brand herself on Nadine's soul, to mark her as irrevocably hers. When they finally broke apart, they were both breathless and trembling, their lips bruised and swollen from the force of their passion. Nadine's eyes were glazed, her cheeks flushed a pretty pink that had nothing to do with the fading marks of her father's cruelty. She looked thoroughly debauched, and Lexy felt a rush of possessive pride at the knowledge that she was the one to put that look on her face.
"You're mine, kitten. Now and forever, you're mine. And I'm going to spend the rest of my life showing you just how much I love you." Lexy promised, her voice rough with emotion
"I have one more favor to ask." Nadine whispered, her voice trembling with barely restrained emotion
"Anything." Lexy whispered, her voice trembling with barely restrained emotion
