The next morning, Jazmere woke up to the sounds of screaming. He tries to drown out their voice, but then they start shaking him. Groaning in annoyance, he sits up in the bed and rubs the sleep from his eyes, trying to make out a visual through his cloudy vision

"Jazmere, get up!" A familiar voice yelled

"Auntie, what are you doing in here? It's like 6 in the morning." Jazz whined

"What am I doing here? I came up here to make sure you weren't dead! You spazzed out of control again and didn't tell me! You know the drill. If anything goes wrong, come to me for help. If I'm not around, either talk to your sister or your mother." Sister Catherine lectured

"I'm sorry, okay? I just needed some time to get back to normal." Jazz says

"Listen, I'm not trying to get on you. I'm saying this because I love you. Don't tell anyone, but you've always been my favorite nephew." Sister Catherine added

"I'm your only nephew." Jazz added

"Don't get smart." Sister Catherine warned

"Seriously, what are you doing here?" Jazz asked

"Your mother's dropping by later on. I figured I'd let you know in advance." Sister Catherine says

"Auntie, did you know that my father abused my mother?" Jazz asks

"Yes, I did." Sister Catherine sighed

"Why didn't you tell us sooner? We could've helped her." Jazz says

Sister Catherine sat beside her nephew, pulling him into her arms and delicately stroking his cheek

"Listen, we tried to get your mother to call it quits. She was so blinded by his charms, she didn't realize how bad things were until it was too late." Sister Catherine explained

"What do you mean, too late?" Jazz frowned, slowly pulling away from her warm embrace

"Do you remember when your mother was in the hospital last year?" Sister Catherine asked

"Yeah, I think so. The doctors said she was in some type of medically induced coma." Jazz frowned

"Yeah? Well, take a wild guess on how she ended up in such a life threatening condition." Sister Catherine says

"My dad did that? He's the reason my mother kept going into cardiac arrest?!" Jazz yelled

"Sweetheart, calm down." Sister Catherine instructed

"Don't tell me to calm down, auntie. My mother almost died because of him, and you want me to calm down?!" Jazz shrieked

Sister Catherine grabbed him from behind, placing her arms around him to stop him from putting up a fight. Once he calmed down, he turned around and buried his face into the crook of her neck, sobbing uncontrollably while she held him, squeezing him like it would be her last time

"I'm sorry, Jazz. I'm so sorry. Your mother was only doing what was right. All she ever wanted to do was protect her children. That's every mother's dream." Sister Catherine says

"Yet, no one protected me. Well, no one except for Billy. If it wasn't for him, I'd be dead by now." Jazz's eyes welled up with tears

"We didn't want you or your sister to worry. You were just kids, you're still kids. Your mother didn't want you to spend the rest of your lives living in fear. She just wanted you to be kids." Sister Catherine says

"I can't go around pretending that everything is okay, auntie." Jazz says

"Look at it this way, hon. Despite everything your mother's been through, she still finds a way to keep pushing. You two give her the strength to keep fighting. If it weren't for your miraculous births, I don't think your mother would've had anything left to fight for. Your mother gave you life, and in return, you saved hers." Sister Catherine says
