It felt like he was dying again, soul detaching from his body and breaking through the surface of the world only to reappear in the void he was now used to. The darkness felt welcoming and somehow, it brought comfort to his heart. Like a warm hug offered by his mother, the void enveloped him with its large wings and brought close to its nonexistent heart. Despite being in a place where nothing existed and only dark stretched on for miles with no end, he felt safe. Content.
After all this time he spent in here, it was safe to say it was like a second home. Alone, forgotten, but protected. With no one to hurt him and nothing to worry about, he was able to rest and think for the first time in years. Even now, floating aimlessly and traveling through the darkness with no direction in mind, Wilbur wasn't upset. Sure, he was revived only to die by the hands of Dream which he really didn't sign up for, but at least this time he died with Techno by his side. So, it was easy to say it was a win win. Not fair, dying was never fair and having to go through all that pain and confusion again was less than welcome, but the comfort he felt when he took his last breath was better than anything. He couldn't help but wonder how Technoblade reacted to his second finale death.
In the void, time passed different. What seemed like years, centuries in here could be months in the overworld.
Wilbur wasn't sure how much time he spend in the void the first time and how much now, it was hard keeping track of time when you had no way of checking it. Counting seemed useless, he wasn't sure how fast the seconds passed, how much minute held, or how often the night fell. And even if he knew, he would grow bored of counting rather quickly or simply get distracted and then it would be lost and he would feel even worse than he did now. Instead, he chose to live with no knowledge and just exist as a ghost. Or whatever it was that he was now. It didn't matter. What mattered was the small ball of light that seemed to appear out of nowhere and hower in the air just above the ground, shaking and blinking as if waiting for him to approach it. Slightly hesitant, Wilbur looked in both direction, left and right and then up just to be safe before eventually deeming it safe enough to come closer to the only light inside the void, which was weird in itself. When he was close enough, he reached out with his hand and let his fingers trace the small orb, recoiling when it shocked him a little but not enough hurt him. Curiously, he took a step forward and placed his both hands under the orb, careful to not touch it. It spun lazily in the air, almost as if it was judging wheter it was a good idea to place itself on his hands or not. After long and painful few seconds, it made its decision and simply plopped down onto his hands, like it wasn't floating just mere seconds ago. It was weightless, Wilbur realized upon taking a closer look.
"That's new.." he whispered, bringing it closer to his face, ignoring the sharp and bright light it gave out.
"It's a soul, traveling through the void before it will be eventually able to reach the afterlife." Said a boice from behind him, spooking him.
Wilbur spun round, the light clenched in his hands tightly, afraid he would drop it on accident. When he saw nothing but the shadows, he looked back at the orb which glowed a little brighter before vibrating softly. It trashed in his hands carefully, spinning in a circle like a trapped bug would do. Opening his hands, he watched as the orb shot into the air from his hands and after giving a lazy spin, flickered softly and moved on, flying away from him and into the darkness."When a wandering soul fullfils its purpose or in your case, finishes its symphony, it is directed to the afterlife where it can finlly rest and never have to worry about anything" the same voice said, its tone sweet and calm, "Only then can the body perish in peace and the soul taste the sweetness of serenity"
"What about me? What is my unfinished symphony?" the man asked softly, looking up when the darkness seemed to lit up.
He came face to face with a face, one painfully familiar but at the same time not. The face was blurry, like someone wiped it with an eraser and took its eyes and mouth. Or maybe it was just the effects of the void kicking in.
