Better than ever

The darkness was swept away, green light lightning up the square room so brightly to the point where it was easy to go blind. For a second, nothing happened before the light disappeared and the darkness returned. A cry of frustration ripped out of the prisoner's throat, before something fell to the ground followed by a loud clank.
The masked man pinched the wall with his fist, green eyes staring at the floor with his forehead pressed against the cold and black wall. The book laid fee feet away from him, facing the floor while a random page wrinkled under it's weight. Sparkles of green light flagged around for a brief moment before fully disappearing, meaning the work did work but something wasn't quite right.

"The spell is the right one, the intensions loud and clear. If the light appears, it means it is in fact working. So why the hell is he still not here?!" He yelled, his fist once again lunching the wall in front of him. "Fucking kid. Always causes troubles"

With that, he picked up the book quietly before reading the words out loud again. They slipped from his tongue easily, the sudden wind ruffling his already messed hair, despite no window being there. The green eyes only glowed with a tint of green. He lifted up his right hand and unclenched his fist. A small ball of green light out flew, a smouldering ball of magic. It glowed brighter in power, and thrust itself upon the derelict building. As the light formed into a figure, tall and lanky, he waited for a moment. There was a small silence, before the entire thing disaapeared and in it's place was only emptiness left.
His hand fell to his side, anger boiling inside his stomach as he gripped the book tightly in his hand. The green orb was supposed to take back the one from the death and bring him here, in the hands of it's master. Yet, nothing was there. Only him and the crying obsidian, which pathetically called out for god's mercy.

"Why isn't it working?!" He tossed the book to the ground in a attack of anger, which landed right in the corner and inches away from the lava.

Only then did he realize, he wasn't entirely alone.
The book laid right in fronf of someone, their shoes being the first thing that caught Dream's attention. Slowly, he raised his head and locked his eyes with vibrant red one's. For some reason, none of them looked happy to see each other.
As Dream shifted uncomfortably in his place, Technoblade walked further inside and looked around, kicking the book while doing so. It looked like a normal simple book, with nothing but scrapped sides and pages.

"Hello Technoblade! What brings you here to my cell?" Dream spoke, catching the Piglin's attention.

Techno paid him no mind, instead chosing to lean on the wall and close his eyes in thoughts.

"I hope you realized that I haven't come here to have a talk with you, or as you might think, help you" he said with the same monotone voice as always.

And at that moment, Dream just knew it wasn't going to be a normal visit. He scoffed, letting his own body fell onto he bed and cross his arms over his chest. Almost like a kid, dramatically sighing.

"Well, I did figure it out. My only question is, why are you here then?" He asked.

For a moment, he did not hear an answer.
But then, something heavy hit the ground as if it was metal. And when Dream did look up, his eyes widened before sitting up.

*Sam let you inside with a fucking axe?! Man, are you sure you're not here to help me?" He asked, a small smile creeping onto his face.

But before he could get his hopes up, he noticed the look Techno gave him.

"Don't make it harder it should be."

Ah, so that's what he was here for. Of course, Dream though of himself as smart and rather cautious. So, why did he not figure it out sooner?

"Are you working with L'manburg now? They got you on their side or something?" He asked.

Techno shook his head, eyes almost offended like. He easily weighted the weapon in his right hand, before bringing it closer to his face so he could examinate it.

"Well, I wouldn't call it as siding with them. We just have a small deal, that's all." He said, before continuing. "I make you tell me the truth and everything you know, while they offer peace and leave me and Phil alone"

Dream laughed dryly, his voice bouncing from the walls like echo.
He looked mockingly at Techno, their eyes meeting together for a split second before Dream was forced too look away. He still wasn't used to those red eyes filled with misery, death and all blood that he carried on himself from years of fighting.

"You really believed them?" He asked, voice taunting.

Techno shrugged, shoulders relaxing as he spun the blade in his grip.

"It's not like they have a choice. Besides, I came prepared. One option is for me to free you and destroy L'manburg again. And the other is for me to kill you and never tell them anything. This way, they won't be able to bring Tommy back and will lose all hope."

"And what if they go after Philza?" Dream's curiousity was not hidden well enough, because Techno could clearly hear and see it in the way his body moved.

"We built a hidden base somewhere far away from here. If they try anything, he can go there and hide."

There was one thing Dream didn't understand quite well. If Techno could just leave with Phil and hide from everyone, without risking anything, why help them in the first place? That's what his next question was, why did he agree?

"So why, if you could just escape and hide from them, would you agree? Wouldn't it be easier?"

"The only reason why I agreed to help them, is Because even if Tommy did betray me, I never really hated him. He was young and naive, choosing government over me and Phil, but I can't really blame him. He did grow up there most of his life and I've gotta agree, Phil wasn't really present in his childhood. So, if I'm being honest, I don't hold any budge against him."

Saying Dream was shocked, would be an understatement.

"You're just forgiving him?! Like that?" Dream asked.

"I'm not a monster Dream, I still have a heart. And as much as I have the reason to hate hi,m I cannot bring myself to do that. Maybe Because I stole his father from him. Or maybe because I was one of few reasons why he left that day. I know he did some bad things, but we all have done it, Dream. Especially you." Techno said. "We all are the same at some point"

Seeing Techno speak so highly of someone and just not full of hatred or need to kill them was surprising. And maybe a little scary. Because as long as Dream could remember, the famous Technoblade was seen as strong, tall and frightening warrior who could take on almost everyone and easily win a fight with them. He never saw anyone who could make him kneel and give up. That was almost impossible. And he himself never dueled the guy, because he was certainly sure he would lose. Only idiots would go and challenge him on their own.
And even in some places, the award for the Piglin's head grew bigger every passing day.

"Alright, enough of the chit chat. I've came here for a reason, so let's make it quick." Techno said.

And suddenly, the shining and enchanted axe that was once resting on his shoulder, birdied it's blade in the walls inches away from Dream's face. Dangerously close and when it comes to Techno, he never misses or plays games too long.

"W-well, what do you want to know?" Dream asked, an innocent smile creeping onto his face.

It was probably one of his best manipulation tactics. And most of the time, it did rok on everyone pretty well. Especially Tommy, after all.
But Techno? There was no way you could get him to listen to you. Not one bit.

"You will tell me everything about the book and even more. If you want to see another day, you will sing it like a bird" Techno's eyes vibrated for a second, his fangs showing visibly to Dream.

And in that moment, all bravery and rage Dream had in himself left his body.
