Leaving the Sports Festival with a second place was great for Todoroki, but not perfect. He was close to getting the first place, already feeling the gold medal that would be placed on his neck. That chance however was stollen from him by Bakugou, who overpowered him in the final round. He wasn't frustrated nor angry, but the slight disappoinment was still there, eating away at his heart. But as he later came to realization, he wasn't as disappointed as his father would be. Simply, he moved on and left the place, not waisting any more time on confronting his father nor anyone else. Bakugou was already getting on his nerves with all his nagging and loud voice and it wasn't in Todoroki's business to tell him off.
One thing that did make him feel worse was the fact that he promised Tommy he would win. That he would reach the top and be the best of all.
Unfortunately, it wasn't the case. And even if he knew that Tommy wouldn't be angry at him or disappointed, it still made him feel uneasy.

Hence why, once he was away from any of his classmates, successfully sneaking out without bumping into his father, he pulled out his phone and scrolled down to a familiar name.
He pressed a button, Tommy's picture showing up as his phone vibrated. He did not have to wait for long, the call picked up almost seconds later.

"Hello?" Tommy's voice reaching him, probably not even sparing a second to look at the number that was calling him.

"Hey, it's Todoroki" he said, a silence taking over the other side.

"Hey! I was about to ext you and ask how it went. What place did you get?" Tommy asked excitedly, his voice little higher than normally.

"Second place. Bakugou managed to snatch the first place in the last second-" Todoroki was suddenly cutt off by Tommy, who whistled loudly, catching him off guard.

"That's great! I knew you could do this. God, I have an amazing friend, I'm proud" His friend said, laughing on the other end of the call. "I hope you know that I would be proud of you no matter which place you got."

Todoroki felt how the corners of his lips tugged upwards, him not even noticing when he smiled a little, looking ahead to not trip or bump into anyone.

"Thank you." He said.

The silence was short but comfortable, each thinking their own things. Tommy, to say briefly was excited for his friend and what he achieved. The blonde was upset that he wasn't there to witness his friend's fights or how he wasn't there to watch him go up that stage and receive his medal. But that didn't change the fact that he was proud like never. His chest was light, wings resting gently on his back as he relaxed.
Todoroki on the other hand was glad he had a friend like this. A friend who didn't judge him, but celebrated with him. He expected to hear disappointment to be in his voice, or for him to call Todoroki out and say how weak he actually was or even anything else.
But what he heard made him utterly happy. Probably more than ever.

"Can you promise me one thing, Todoroki?" Tommy's voice rung out, snapping his attention back to the screen.

"Of course" was his answer.

"Can you promise me that you won't forget how great you are? That if Bakugou or your father or really anyone else says something negative about you or express their disappoinment, swear to me you won't listen to their lies. Promise me you won't let their words bring you down, because it is not true. You are strong, don't let others think differently."

Todoroki stopped for a moment, before carrying on with his walk down the empty street, his bag hanging from his shoulder.

"I promise." He said before adding. "And Tommy?"

"Yeah?"

"You're strong too. So don't ever think that you're not. And you're not useless, nor annoying. I.. I do enjoy your presence." Todoroki said, his voice reaching that of a whisper. "And I'm glad that you're my friend"
