"What do you want from me, Hank?"

"That guy, is he your boyfriend?"

Markus arched an eyebrow as he folded his arms. "Why are you asking me this question? You heard my parents introduced him as my mate."

Hank's gaze wandered down his body then up to meet his eyes. "I heard, but refused to believe it."

"Believe what you want. It's the truth." Markus said with a shrug. He didn't want to have this conversation with Hank. Hank was only three years older than him but they hadn't kept in touch with each other for four years.

"We haven't seen each other for almost four years. Why don't we go have a drink at our old hangout?"

"I can't."

"Why not? Aren't we friends anymore?"

Friends wouldn't be the word he would use.

"How's your family doing? I thought they would come to the party."

Hank stared at him silently for a few seconds before looking away. "They were busy."

Markus unfolded his arms. "Look, I need to get back to the party before they start worrying about me. We can talk another time."

He started to move away but Hank grabbed his arm to keep him from moving any further. He looked down at the hand holding his arm, before his gaze landed on Hank's face.

"I've missed you." Hank lifted his other hand to touch his face. He leaned forward to sniff at him. "But your scent is different now."

"Hank, if you really consider me a friend, let me go." Markus didn't want to cause a scene. He couldn't let anyone find out about his true origin.

"I want us to be more than friends."

"Don't make any trouble." Markus could feel the burning in his blood. It reminded him of the damage he caused when he was trapped in that place. "Now, let me go."

Hank released his arm but stayed close to him. "I wonder what would happen if I told everyone out there your true origin."

"I don't know what you're talking about."

"How long will you hide the fact that you're a Hybrid?"

Markus kept his expression neutral but inside he was bubbling with anger at the threat. How did he found out about his true bloodline?

"Transcendent Nephalem. A rare Hybrid. No wonder your scent is so alluring. You have mixed blood."

Markus stared at him silently, as he felt that surge of power engulfed his body. It compelled him to get rid of Hank. Get rid of him to keep his secret. But he couldn't kill him without cause.

How did Hank find out?

Markus walked away without a backward glance. He strode over to Mitchell and pulled him against his body.

Mitchell leaned his head back to look up at him. "I had to distract myself from coming in there."

He placed a quick kiss on Mitchell's forehead. "I need to tell you something."

Mitchell's eyes flickered to the door.

"Was is it? Did he try to do anything to you?"

"No. He wouldn't dare to try anything on my parents property."

"What's your relation to him?"

"He's an old friend. He left Pine Crest four years ago."

"Why did he come back here?"

Markus shrugged his shoulders. "I really don't know." But whatever the reason, it couldn't be a good one.

"We should let everyone know that we're fully mated. I don't like the thought of all these stares aimed at you."

Mitchell clasped their hands together and they made their way towards the table where his parents were talking to Sarah. The conversation stalled the instant they were both close and their parents turned to look at them.

"What are you talking about?"

Melina smiled, "We were just catching up with each other."

They were being secretive again. He hated when they kept secrets from him. But he didn't want to make a scene in front of anyone. Not at his party.

"I think it's time to let everyone know about us." Mitchell told them.

Markus's parents glanced at Sarah, who only nodded at them. Markus guessed Sarah already knew about their mating. What other secrets were they hiding?

Antonio signaled to the DJ to stop the music as they walked onto the stage.

The sudden silence cut through the air like a knife and all eyes turned in their direction. Mitchell's hold on his tightened but he didn't look at him.

"As Markus's parents, we only the best for our son." Antonio paused, his gaze roaming at the the crowd. "Everyone here knows my son, some of you watched him grow up, while  others, recently became friends with him. Tonight, I would like to officially introduce you to Markus's mate. The mating ritual was completed." He gestured to Mitchell with a smile. "He's been marked."

Markus scanned the crowd as cheers and applause rang out. His eyes landed on Hank's unsmiling face. It didn't matter that he was mated, his scent would still cause havoc to those around him. Cassie and Lucas were also watching him.

"Let's enjoy the rest of the party."

The DJ resumed playing the music as they left the stage. Mitchell still had a firm grip on his hand.

"Congratulations to you both." Sarah said, giving them a kiss on the cheek.

Kev and Susan, along with the others walked up to them with smiles on their faces to congratulate them.

"Not everyone is going to be happy with your mating." Susan pointed out to the group.

Markus had already garnered that from the looks he had received. He had never led anyone on. But his mixed blood has been causing this problem since he was young. The older he got, the stronger his scent became.

It's only the beginning. You have no idea how powerful you are because of your mixed blood. But soon everyone will see.

  He heard a voice whispered.
