"Do you want to call Kev and Susan?"
"No. I don't want to cause any unnecessary alarm."
Markus looked in the rear-view mirror at the vehicle still driving behind them. He wasn't anxious about being tailed by the unknown vehicle.
"This isn't the first time I'm seeing this vehicle."
Markus turned to Mitchell with a frown. "When did you see it?"
"One night I saw it parked outside my house. At first I thought it was you..."
"Is that why you asked me that question that night?"
"Yes, it was."
"How many times have you seen it?"
"Just two times, but never stays for too long."
Markus gritted his teeth at thought of someone staking out Mitchell's house. He saw the car still behind, falling back a little as they neared the road to his home.
Markus wanted to just glance quickly at the mirror again, when he saw his eyes weren't the usual hazel color. He knew this wasn't a good sign, out here in the open. He pressed harder on the gas pedal, and the vehicle accelerated towards his house.
"Whoever that's following us, I can't let them get near my car. I can't allow them to see my eyes."
"What's wrong with your eyes?"
"They're red."
Mitchell's head spun in his direction, eyes wide with panic.
"How did that happen?"
"I think it happened when I got angry."
Mitchell gave a small nod with his head, "Maybe it has something to do with your emotions."
"But I'm not feeling any burning."
"Maybe the burning stopped."
Markus pulled up in front of the gate, and waited for it open, while his fingers tapped on the steering wheel. He glanced back, but the vehicle was nowhere in sight. When the gate swung open, he drove through.
"We're going to have to tell the others." Markus winced at the thought. He was already under tight security and this was going to cause a stir.
They exited the car and walked towards the door.
"Wait, my eyes are still red. But there's nothing that can be done about it." Markus groaned.
When they entered the house, Kev was already there waiting for them.
"What took you so long?" He leaned forward to stare at his face. "Why are your eyes that color again?"
Markus closed the door, "We had a small matter to deal with."
A serious expression came onto Kev's face. "What happened?"
"Someone was following us."
"Did you see who it was?" Kev didn't hesitate, and headed to the kitchen.
"No, but we know the color of the vehicle." Mitchell stated.
"Kev, would it be asking too much if you hold off on telling the others?"
Kev aimed a 'you must be crazy' look his way, making Mitchell laugh out loud.
"It was just a simple question."
Markus grimaced when he heard Susan's infuriated voice coming from the kitchen. The door opened as Susan and her parents came charging out.
"That does it. We need to call the others."
"Susan, call them tomorrow. It's too late now."
"As if that would be a hindrance."
Markus knew it wasn't. But he didn't want the others driving so far in a haste.
"When we find out what we need to know, we can call them."
"They're going to very pissed off if anything happens to you."
Markus felt something touched his leg, so he looked down to find Raven rubbing against him.
"She got out." Mitchell reached down to pick her up, and gave her to Markus.
Markus saw an exchanged look between Kev, Susan and her parents as they stared at Raven.
"Don't tell me you're allergic to cats?" Mitchell asked.
"I told Mitchell she can stay here."
Kev was the first to look away. "No, it's cool. It's just that we've never seen a cat with such dark fur."
Markus didn't believe him.
They were hiding something.
Again.
"Oh, I thought it would be a problem." Mitchell said with relief.
"Any, let's forget about that. We have a more pressing matter."
Susan sat down next to her parents, while Kev remained standing.
"Did this vehicle followed you here?"
"No, it disappeared after we turned onto the road."
"Was it parked in front of Mitchell's house the whole time?"
"The car was there when we came out, not before."
Markus would have noticed the vehicle the instant he parked his car.
So, that means whoever was driving, knew they would be there.
"I think they were watching Mitchell."
"Why would they watch him? He just moved here."
"I don't think so."
They all turned to stare at Susan's father.
"What do you mean?" Susan asked.
They wanted an answer but Markus understood what he meant.
"They weren't watching him. They were waiting for me."
"But, you weren't at my home that first night. How would they know you would be there?"
"Not unless they've been watching us for a while." Kev chipped in.
"Could it be someone from school?"
Markus could feel a headache forming, and he wasn't in the mood to filter through all the likely suspects at the moment.
Raven licked his hand, as though she was trying to comfort him.
"We can talk about this another time. I'm going upstairs and take a shower." He needed to go and just relax. And a nice hot shower will do the trick.
"Aren't you going to leave Raven down here?"
"No, I'm going to take her with me, since she will be staying in my room."
Markus kissed Mitchell, before standing up, still holding Raven. He left the living-room and headed upstairs to his room.
Closing the door behind him, he put her on the bed, then went into the bathroom. He stripped, throwing his clothes in the hamper. He stepped into the shower and turned the faucet.
Markus sighed as the warm water ran over his body. He put his head under the spray, enjoying the feel of the water on his skin. He grabbed his body wash and poured a generous amount on his loofah sponge. Just as he was at the point of rubbing the soap on his skin, he heard the bathroom door opened.
Markus turned his face, to find a naked Mitchell standing there, smiling at him.
His eyes roamed slowly down Mitchell's naked body, then back up until he was staring at his face.
"Need a hand?" Mitchell asked with a grin.
