Markus gritted his teeth at the pain, squeezing his eyes shut. For ten minutes he endured the pain until it finally subsided. He opened his eyes to stare at the triplets, feeling each of their hearts beating. But each thumping beats were different.
"I can feel your heartbeats."
"Same here. We're now linked with each other. We can sense when any one of us is in danger."
"Okay." Markus could still taste their blood in his mouth. "My parents will be home tomorrow. I'll introduce you guys to them."
"So, we can stay now?"
"Yes, you can stay. Come on, let me show you where you'll be staying."
He led them upstairs to a room at the end of the hallway. It was furnished with two queen-size beds, which would be perfect for them.
Markus turned to face the triplets.
"I'll see you in the morning."
"It's already morning, Akri." Calia laughed, shaking her head at him.
"Then I will see you later."
Markus hadn't looked at the time before coming downstairs. He left the bedroom and strode towards his own.
Mitchell was on his stomach fast asleep, the sheets had ridden low down his waist almost exposing his ass cheeks. Markus bent forward to pull the sheets over his body.
His grabbed his phone when it suddenly started ringing. He glanced at the call screen before answering the call.
"Why are you calling me so late?"
"You've been ignoring my calls. I don't like it." Tim's slurred voice sounded in his ear.
"Have you been drinking again? You know that you're not supposed to be drinking."
"I need to talk to you. Meet me at our spot."
Markus debated about meeting Tim but he couldn't let his parents found out he had been drinking. He didn't want to get involved but he couldn't leave him alone.
"I'll be there in half an hour."
Markus ended the call then quickly changed his clothes. He left Mitchell a note just in case he woke up looking for him. He grabbed his cellphone and keys and went downstairs, making sure not to make any noise. Seven guardians following behind him was more than he could handle.
He headed to his vehicle, got in, started the engine and drove off. A light rain had begun to fall but by the time he reached the spot, the rain had gotten heavier, drumming wildly on the rooftop. He could hear the rumble of thunder in the distance.
Lightning flashed so brightly it illuminated the road for a few seconds. Suddenly there was a loud clap of thunder. Markus took his time driving because the road was slippery and he didn't want to crash.
The outcrop of the rock loomed ahead letting him know the turnoff was coming up. He drove down the dirt road until he spotted Tim's car idling in the middle of the clearing.
Markus exited the vehicle and was immediately drenched from head to toe. He made his way over to the vehicle and peered into the front driver's window.
Tim was sitting in the driver's side with his head back against the seat, eyes closed. He knocked on the glass with his knuckles to get his attention.
Markus went around the other side and got into the car. "Why are you out here alone? Did you drive here drunk?"
Tim opened his eyes and twisted his head to look at him. Markus could see his face clearly, and Tim's grey eyes were pinned to his face.
"Your scent is turning me on." Tim murmured.
"You're drunk." Markus brushed his wet hair from his face as he stared out at the downpour.
"I'm not that drunk."
Tim grabbed his hand tightly but made no move to go any further.
After a few seconds Tim sighed before releasing his hold on his hand.
"I'm sorry about how I acted toward you."
"It's fine."
"You're a really good friend."
Markus turned his head to peer at him. "Are we really friends, Tim?"
"I'd rather be your friend than nothing."
"I'm going to take you home."
"Why don't we hang out sometime? I need to tell you something important."
"Why can't you tell me now?"
"I'll tell you later." Tim said closing his eyes ending the conversation. He tapped his fingers against the steering wheel for a minute then opened his eyes.
"Can you drive yourself home?"
Tim scrubbed his hands over his hands before sitting up. "Yeah, I'm good."
"I'll follow behind you."
Markus exited the vehicle in the pouring rain but he was already wet so it didn't bother him. He got into his vehicle and waited for Tim to start his car, then followed closely behind him.
He dialed Tim's number to keep him talking until they reached his home.
The rain had trickled to a light drizzle by the time they pulled up in front of Tim's home. Markus parked his vehicle and watched Tim drive through the gates. He remained there until the gates closed before driving back home.
