"I'm surprised Kev and Susan didn't tag along. It seems like their attached to your hip." Mitchell remarked when they were on the way to his house.
"Don't ever let them hear you say that. I had to promise I'd call them as soon as I'm home."
"They're very protective of you. All eight of your friends are very protective of you."
Mitchell had never had a group of friends or seen any friends act that way.
"Aren't you protective of me Mitchell?"
"Yes, I am." He didn't need to think twice to answer. He would protect him no matter what.
"Same here."
Mitchell stared out at his home, the lights were on, which meant his mom was still awake, waiting for him. Probably wanting to ask how his date went.
"I had a really great time."
"Let me help you with your collection."
They exit the vehicle, arms loaded with the stuffed animals and walked to his door. Since his phone and keys were in pocket, he couldn't reach them. He used his foot to knock on the door.
"Why are you knocking on the door?" Sarah's voice trailed off when she saw them.
"A little help."
"Oh, sorry." She opened the door wider to take some of the burden from him.
"Who did you rob? Am I going to have to bail you out?"
"Get inside, you delusional woman."
Markus laughed at their banter. He still hadn't gotten used to their playful attitude. He trailed behind with his load, carefully maneuvering his way through the house.
"Markus, how are you doing sweetie?"
"I'm good Sarah."
"Did you guys go to the carnival? Did you win these Markus?"
"One question at a time. What makes you think that I didn't win anything?"
Upstairs his mom had to open the door since she had the lesser load.
"Some people have two left feet, you have two left hand and zero coordination."
"Is it my fault. I got that from you."
Mitchell went into his closet and put his load on an empty shelf. He had the others put on his bed.
"Okay, fine. Markus won these for me."
"You have a great throwing arm."
"I play football so it comes in handy."
"Handsome, plays sports, great at cooking, wonderful personality. My son is lucky to have you."
"I'm the lucky one."
"Modest too."
Mitchell stared at his mom, praying she would shut up.
"Do you want him as your son instead?"
"I can't do that to his parents. You'll give them nothing but headaches."
"Use the door, right now." Mitchell pointed the door.
"Love you honey."
His mom kissed him on the cheek, then left the room, closing the door to give them privacy.
"I'm sorry about my mom. I think she's drunk."
Markus went to sit on the edge of his bed and Raven made herself comfortable on his lap.
