Mitchell pushed the cart down the aisle while Kev picked up what they needed to make dinner for Markus's parents.
"What time will their plane arrive?"
"In the afternoon." Kev paused to look at him. "Are you nervous about meeting them?"
"Not really. I'm just..." What could he say about how he was feeling. It wasn't nervousness. Mitchell shook his head at Kev. "It's nothing."
"The Graves are good people. There is nothing to be nervous about."
"You're probably right." Mitchell looked down at the list Susan had given them. They had gotten almost everything; the drinks, food and decorations but she had still found things they needed.
They were making their way up the next aisle when he spotted Charlie walking in their direction.
"Oh, great." He muttered.
He really wasn't in the mood to talk to him. But it would be obvious that he was trying to avoid him.
"Mitchell, Kev. How are you guys doing?"
"What are you doing here?" Mitchell ignored his question. He was starting to get suspicious that Charlie was following them.
"I'm just picking up some snacks for later. I'm having some friends over."
Charlie's eyes flickered over to Mitchell but he didn't say anything.
"Would you guys like to come over to my house?"
Mitchell opened his mouth to reject the invitation but Kev beat him to it.
"Not tonight, Charlie. Maybe another time."
"Okay, cool. I guess I'll see you guys around."
Mitchell watched him until he went around the corner. "He's like a spy."
"What do you mean?"
"He just pops up everywhere."
"Do you think he was here looking for Markus?"
Mitchell nodded his head but his thoughts to himself. He sighed then held up the up the paper.
"Did we get everything on the list?"
"We got everything."
"Okay, let's go."
They paid for the groceries then left the supermarket. Once the goods were put in the trunk, they piled into Kev's car. The drive was quiet except for light music coming from the speakers.
"Mitchell, can I ask you a personal question?"
"Sure. What is it?"
"Do you know anything about your heritage?"
Mitchell turned his to look at Kev. He frowned at him. "What do you mean?"
"Your parents family. Do you know anything about them?"
"No, I don't. My dad left when I was a baby. My mom never really talks about her parents. Why are you asking me?"
"Do you remember what happened before we went to find Markus?"
"No. I keep drawing a blank."
Mitchell could feel a memory itching at the corner of his mind but every time he would try to remember, it eluded him.
"You can talk to Sarah. Maybe she'll be able to help you."
Mitchell glanced down at his hands then out the window. Did he really wanted to remember?
