Chapter 57

---------------------

Babs opened the lid of the crate, hoping to find something good, when something sprang out and threw him to the hard wood floor of the dilapidated building.

"Babylon?"

He grumbled as he was trying to recover from the blow.

Amber immediately rolled off of him and Austin helped the large man up on his feet.

"What the hell are you doing here?"

With a great breath he managed to force some air back into his possible collapsed lungs.

"I was foraging. Why did you attack me?"

"We were hiding."

"From what?"

"From us."

Boom! Wood shattered the beam nearest Austin's head and they broke apart leaping out of the way.

"What's your problem?!"

Amber yelled out from behind a wooden support beam.

"We have to dispose of all the unnecessaries. It ain't personal, love."

Babs was ducking behind and over turned sofa with Austin wheezing beside him.

"This is what you are running from? Men with guns?"

"Well excuse us for valuing our lives."

"I thought it was something serious."

He stood up and as the two hunters beheld the sight of him, they were shocked.

"Oi...we have no quarrels with you. Why don't ya just shove off and we'll forget you were ever here."

Babs walked up to the man and grabbed the snout of his rifle and bent it ninety degrees down. He turned back to his amazed comrades and shrugged.

"See? It's nothing."

"Why you..!"

The other poised gun to shoot, but Babs grabbed it and threw it into the surprised arms of Amber.

Without hesitation he grabbed the tiny man by the shirt and smashed his forehead into the hunter's face.

He broke his nose and blood spurted out of the newly unconscious enemy.

Babs grimaced as he wiped blood off of his face.

He turned to see Austin and Amber directly behind him, starry eyed and mouths agape.

"What?"

Amber dropped the rifle to the ground and threw her arms around his waist trying to completely engulf her tiny body into his.

Confused, Babs patted her head looking at Austin who shrugged.

"I think she means thank you."

Isabella was yanked back and Immanuel hoisted her up and his compatriot struggled to restrain her.

"Feisty little thing isn't she?"

"Really...she's barely and adult. Besides we have strict orders not to touch her."

"Like anyone would ever know."

Then came the most ghastly scream.

It sounded like a dog ho was being torn apart as he yet lived.
