Chapter 25

-----------------------------------------

Onyx sat quietly on the cold floor of a holding cell in the Brig.

Arsham tied her hands and feet so that they looked tight, but the slightest tug would set them apart.

On the other side of the barred door in front of her sat Carnage. He looked extremely pissed.

"I heard what Nathanial did to ya. Do you feel okay?"

"Piss off Bitch."

He said glaring at her and gritting his teeth.

Onyx smiled at him, and noticed her gun holstered at his hip.

"So you like my pistol?"

"Shut up, I'm not supposed to be talkin to you."

"I'm just tryin to make conversation."

He picked up the pistol and pulled back the hammer.

"Say one more thing and I'll blow that pretty face of yers apart."

She blew a kiss at him.

This was the last straw, he shot up from his seat, jammed the key into the lock and yanked the cell door open. He stabbed the muzzle of the gun into her cheek.

"I'm gonna kill you! Ya damn Whore!"

He put a finger to the trigger and Onyx closed her eyes ready for the shot. It didn't come.

She peeked out of one eye and smiled.

The edge of her sword hummed as it was pointed firmly at the back of Carnage's head. It was held firmly in the hand of the Reaper Captain.

"I'm surprised he let you touch him."

Onyx said, as Carnage let her go.

The blue of Jonathan's eyes were live Ice when he lowered his gaze to her.

"We have similar motives. Drop it boy."

Carnage dropped the pistol to the floor, and John lowered the sword.

Carnage turned toward the captain.

"Captain I-"

Carnage was cut off by a large blow to the face. It was hard and loud and even Onyx was astonished.

The Reaper held the image of his namesake as he stared at Carnage with murderous intent.

"If she should die. She'll be dyin by my hands and my hands alone."

Without a further word Carnage left the room ascending the stairs that led to the deck.

Now the two were alone.

"Why are you here girl?"

"I was captured."

"Bull. Where is the permit?"

"I lost it."

"More Bull. I should kill you. That'd make my life easier."

"But then you'd miss me. Besides if you were really going to kill me, I'd be dead long before set foot on this acurséd ship."

The Reaper sighed, and plopped down onto the seat that Carnage was sitting on.

"Where did I go wrong with you? Why must you make me an enemy?"

She shrugged.

"You are the enemy of my friends. I mean it's you who led the blasted Hunters to me. In fact everything up til now has been a ploy to get me to come to this Island."

The Reaper chuckled.

"Smart girl. Who told you? Nathaniel?"

"Aye."

He chuckled again.

"Strange fellow that one is. I'm still not sure as to whether or not he's my enemy or not. But it doesn't matter."

"These ropes hurt. How's about you loose them for me?"

"Not a chance."

"Worth a shot."

The two sat in silence as they stared at each other.

"John? I think the problem is that you never really loved me. You used me and then threw me away."

"Threw you away? You left me! I had absolutely no say in the matter."

"What about that secret room huh? What about the old man?"

"That old man and the room were none of yer damned business to begin with. If you'd have just done what I told you we'd still be together."

"But I never do what you say."

"Well in glad you've noticed that at least . Alright."

He got up and picked up the pistol from the floor and leaned her sword against the chair.

"What are you gonna do with that?"

"Kill ya, what else?"

He pointed it at her and smirked at the look of utter disbelief that washed over her face.

"Are ya smashed? I thought we had this conversation already. You'd never kill me."

He raised an eyebrow and fired.

The shot grazed her right shoulder, coming dangerously close to her face.

She began to tug at her bindings.

"Anymore questions sweetheart?"

"What about the permit?"

"To hell with the permit. I just wanted to lure you here. The hunters were just part of the deal."

He fired another shot and this one grazed her cheek. She felt the hot stick of her skin splitting open.

She shrugged off the ropes from her hands and began to work on the ones from her feet.

She heard him laugh again.

"See? This is why I can't let you live, you just can't be trusted."

This timed he aimed right in between her eyes.

She cursed as she tugged at the ropes at her ankles. Arsham had knotted them too tight.

"I really did care for you sweetheart."

Then a shot rang out.
