Part 28: Best friend

A text message arrived. Just when I agreed to play a round of video games with the boys.

It was Sougo's number, but the message didn't seem to be from him:

There was only one person I knew who abused emojis like this. My best friend, Mitsu, which was also Sougo's big sister. She got married and lived in a countryside with no mobile signals, in addition to her husband's job requiring them to move around a lot. Since then, we didn't have many chances to chat.

Getting thrilled that Mitsu was visiting, I asked Haise if I could go home immediately. After saying goodbye to the Suzuya squad and Link, I followed Haise to his car for a ride home.

"You look so excited," Haise said on the way. He touched my cheek, "Your face is all warmed up." And it got even hotter because of the touch.

H-he doesn't hesitate at all to touch me now. So this is being in a relationship... Haise is now my b-boyfriend? I could get used to this, although not immediately...

I'm still shy in front of him. There's so much things about him that I'm curious of. Does he have any parents? What did he do before becoming a teacher? It's kinda weird that we became a couple before knowing each other's backgrounds in detail... isn't it?

But I do know that I don't want to lose him to anyone else. I'll find out about him later, we'll have plenty of time. What can go wrong? It's not like he has any shady problems or horrible past, right? What if he's secretly a single mom with four kids? Ha ha. Silly.

At the moment though, I couldn't wait to tell my best friend about how Haise and I met and everything else (maybe not about the ghoul side). It would be much easier if Mitsu knew him too.

"Haise..."

"Yes?"

"Do you mind if I introduce you to Mitsu?"

"Of course not, I'd be happy to know someone important to you. Beside, maybe your friend will tell me interesting stories about you."

"If you mean my shameful stories, there will be too many that she wouldn't even be able to remember any."

"That doesn't make sense," Haise chuckled. "Well, now that you're my girlfriend, I can ask you anything without sounding like a creeper."

He just said I was his girlfriend... Fwaaaa

"T-the same with you, now I can do anything to you too!"

There was a gleam in his grey eyes. "Anything?"

"Yeah, like..." I thought about holding hands and giving surprise kisses on the cheek and going to dates... All kinds of cute and romantic things that were too embarrassing to mention.

"Hmm?" Haise just parked his car, and now demanding your answer.

"Brushing your hair and scratching your back..." I'd love to do those too.

"Do you think I'm like a little dog?"

I imagined chibi Haise with puppy ears, wagging his fluffy tails.

"I want like 60 of them..." I mumbled.

"Did you just imagine me as a little puppy??"

"So many chibi Haise in my head right now!"

"Uh, you know you only need one, right? And he's right in front of you."

"Ee are you jealous of yourself?"

Haise paused for a second. "I'm not going to share you with anyone," he muttered, "not even myself."

What? How do you not share something with yourself? More like, is it even called sharing if it's only yours? Maybe he worded that sentence wrong. Weird, isn't he a language teacher?

I didn't stretch on that topic further since we got out of the car right after. And a sudden realization hit me.

My house was a mess.

I hadn't cleaned since before the school trip. I got back home, then we went to the ghoultown and then the next morning I was dragged out by Sei. And now we're here.

So I suggested to go directly to Sougo's place and visit Mitsu there.

But wow. We were greeted by an unearthly sight. The door to Sougo's flat was ajar, letting us see the scene happening inside.

Sougo had his hands tied up behind his back. He's also wearing a bra on top of his T-shirt. Mitsu was struggling to prevent him from escaping. There was a few second stillness when all four of us looked at each party.

Then Haise covered my eyes with his right hand and shut the door close with his left one.

"Waaait!" We heard Mitsu shouted from inside, just as Haise was about to lead me out of there. "I can explain." She opened the door to let us in.

"It's okay, we're not judging," Haise said.

"I am," I pretended to give Mitsu and Sougo condescending look.

We sat around their low table. Sougo was doing his holiday report (after taking off the bra), ignoring us.

"Sasaki-san, thank you for taking care of my siblings." Apparently I was counted as her little sister. Tee hee.

"No worries. It made me sound like a foster parent, though," Haise laughed.

"You still haven't explained about the rope and the bra," I demanded her.

"Don't you think Sou-chan looks skinny? If he doesn't start eating properly he'll have a girly body," Mitsu referred to Sougo.

'You don't have to force him into wearing a bra though...' I could tell that Haise also had this remark in mind.

"Mitsu-san, what do you do in the countryside?" Haise tried to change the topic to avoid awkwardness.

"I write and draw yaoi doujinshi," Mitsu said calmingly, throwing in a smile too. "Mostly hentai."

Haise froze at the answer. Meanwhile I facepalmed; Haise must now thought that no wonder she's best friend with me - we're both perverted otaku.

Luckily the awkward silence broke when Haise's phone rang. He excused himself to answer it.

"Oh Juuzou? Yes? Alright, I'll be right back and cook something for you," Haise laughed. "I promise. Yes. Okay, I'll see you soon then. Bye bye."

When Haise got back to us, we stared at him with the look fangirls had when the people they ship did cute things to one another.

Me: "Is it your boyfriend *giggles*."

Mitsu: "He misses you? *titters*."

I eyed Mitsu and talked behind my palm, "I'd totally ship them."

Haise looked both embarrassed and annoyed. "I'm going home."

But before he actually left, he kissed my cheek and whispered, "I'll call you later."
