"W-what are you doing??" I pulled my face away from Sougo.

"Cheek hurt... I kiss it better."

"Y-yours is the one that hurt. Kiss your own cheek!"

Sougo let out a big sigh then threw himself back on my bed. "Oyasumi you baka," he closed his eyes, hugged my pillow and decided to sleep.

"Oyasumi your face! Go back to your own room," I tried to drag him out of the bed. "I'll take you there, what room number are you in?"

"Hwah bhuu mhaa.." he buried his face in the pillow, refusing to leave. He's much stronger than me so any effort to get rid of him was useless.

I decided to let him sleep it off for few hours until he's more sober. It'd be quieter outside too; right now other students were still hyped about trying the onsen baths.

I put on my jacket and went to sit in the veranda. Haise was already there.

"Is he alright?" the charming man asked about Sougo's condition. I explained that I'd wake him up later on, so maybe I'd kill some time outside.

"I heard that there's a beautiful park not far from this hotel. I was about to go check it out... Do you want to come?" Haise offered.

"Yes!" I never agreed to anything this fast.

While we're walking to the park, I realized that it's only the first day of the school excursion but I had practically spent the whole day with Haise! And there would be two more days ahead. I wondered if I had used up all my luck for the next year on this trip.

We left the paved road and got into grassy path. I thought it was the edge of the park and expected to see an opening after the next turn. We kept walking but the pathway became darker as it's filled with trees.

"Er, are you sure this is the right way?" I asked him.

"... I'm not sure, sorry," Haise looked embarrassed that we're half lost. "I must have missed the right way... Let's go back, it doesn't look safe here."

"Okay, but wait," I noticed something tiny moving on the ground not far from us. I went to check, "It's a little bunny! Aw it doesn't look well..."

The baby rabbit was cold and weakly. I bent over to pick it up. Just as I held the bunny in my arms, something moved behind the bushes in front of me. The next thing happened very quickly:

A giant hand emerged from the darkness, grabbing my whole body in its palm. But not for more than a second; the arm was cut off immediately by a reddish silhouette. The next thing I knew, Haise was carrying me - one arm supporting my back and another one under my legs.

He's jumping to avoid the giant creature who tried to catch me. Haise's left eye was red, his grimace showed pure concentration. I glanced at the thing attacking us; it looked like an ugly human being with sharp teeth protruding from its wide mouth.

"Close your eyes," Haise whispered to me. It's hard for me to do what he said when I got the greatest view from my position. His serious fighting face, from this angle, was something you just couldn't avert your eyes from. I wasn't just being sleazy; the sight of Sasaki Haise was that hypnotizing.

Then I figured out why he wanted me to close my eyes. With the things growing out of his back, he had slashed the creature all over its body. He might have thought that this action would be too gory for me.

However, the gigantic monster quickly regained its form again. It regenerated. Its movement was quite fast, trying to catch Haise with its limbs and mouth. But the ghoul was much faster, even with me on his arms. Haise made the finishing blow by cutting through the creature's neck with all four of his kagune. It fell lifeless on the ground, then its body disappeared into thin air.

"You're awesome..." I whispered, unable to contain my admiration.

Haise's determined face lost its tension upon hearing this, "You're not afraid?"

"I was quite shocked by the creepy monster..."

-but then you protected me and I felt safe- I didn't say this one out loud though.

"Sorry to have made you come out here, I was careless," Haise looked down, letting me off from his arms.

"I-it was quite fun... don't apologize please," I didn't want to see him sad. "Besides, we get a free bunny!" I showed him the baby animal on my palms. My body heat had helped keeping it warm.

Haise formed a nervous smile, "You're so carefree, it worries me."

I looked at him, trying not to overthink his words or giving myself a delusion of his affection. So I brushed it off with a joke, "Then you have to protect me all the time, ha ha."

Haise's reaction astonished me. His face lighted up, looking sincerely pleased, "That, I can do," his smile turned his eyes into two happy lines.

It felt like something just squeezed my heart and made my chest feel so full, while the butterflies went crazy in my tummy.
