Together or Not at All

ACE VALENTI was good. He was the kind of good that was rare to find in the world, especially the demigod one. He saw the world in positives, had somehow managed to grow up in a loving environment that gave him enough support to be able to see the world as it should be and not what it was. In that way his resolve was greater than her own. He truly believed in this quest and what they were fighting for. He had hopes and dreams, a plan for the future. He wanted to go to college, get a degree, live in a world where he could do the things he wanted to do. And he planned to, after he saved his home.

She had seen enough of the people that she cared about fail to get the things they wanted. Ace Valenti wasn't going to be a name added to that list. If she did one fucking thing right in this world it would be getting his ass into a classroom come August.

The creature didn't have a discernable shape, but it had enough solid form to attack once, taking what looked to be a swipe of some kind, directly at her face. She hit the smoke creature with enough force to dissipate it just in time.

She ignored how much the single blow tired her muscles out.

"Let him go!" She screamed, acknowledging Gaia for the first time. "Let him go and do whatever you damn well please to me!"

There was no response, no dark green glow that seemed to come with her spirit. She had left them in her womb to die. The abyss in front of her held nothing that she could make out with her eyes. The screeches were, demonic. And they were getting louder by the second.

Her trident was being held high in front of her, ears straining to see if anything would give away what or when an attack would come. Behind her Ace was talking about coming up with some kind of way for those chains to come off.

She would protect him with her life until then.

"Truth. What kind of truth?" He was asking the inanimate chain that held him, "Personal I'm assuming... My name is Ace Valenti... Achilles Cletus Valenti?"

The admittance of his real name distracted her enough that she hardly had time to block the second attack. It dove at her in silence. It was instinct alone that saved the sharp talon-like appendages from ripping her face off.

She wasn't quite sure what had come at her. By the time her trident was done with its swing it had retreated back into the nothingness like nothing had attacked her.
