A Tale of Two Lovers

FRANK WAS KICKED OUTSIDE. This left Ace, who was steadily draining himself of any and all energy he had stored up, to chat with Trip while trying to keep poison from killing a girl who has already used up her time on earth once.

Trip seemed to like Ace, something about how Demeter and Apollo have always gotten along because together they keep the earth thriving. Plants need the sun and without it Trip would be out of a job.

The two of them talked trivially about farming and what the six week course load was like. Ace tried his best to seem interested, making eye contact as much as he could and flashing his smile every few minutes. With every question asked, Trip seemed more and more thrilled to share his knowledge.

Ace loved that about him. Anyone who had such a passion for something deserved to

have people who would listen, and in any other situation Ace would be taking notes with a pen and pencil to make this god happy. It got to a point where Ace nearly forgot he should be mad at the guy for not automatically healing Hazel.

Then Ace would have to excuse himself and mutter the healing prayer again, before returning to the conversation that he realized why he had no interest in being in.

At some point when Ace was struggling to continue the conversation about Trips guilty pleasures, the god started asking Ace questions. This was easier because Ace could answer without really thinking, putting most of his focus back on Hazel.

It was not on his to-do list to become best friends with a god today, but then again his to-do lists have had to be scrapped nearly everyday since he decided to go with Percy Jackson on a quest.

Frank didn't return for over an hour. When Ace had run out of reserve power stored in his body as heat, and started to dip into his physical energy that kept his body running. The son of Apollo's head was pounding, his hands were shaking, and he was pretty sure if he stood up too fast a black out was inevitable.

None of that mattered though when the Son of Mars stormed into the room with a rose-gold aura around his body. A snake in a choke hold in one hand, while Hazel's Spatha was the other. He looked older, closer to Ace's age than sixteen. His baby-fat was gone, and he looked as bulky as Cato.

Trip tried to back out of his deal for reasons unknown to Ace but Frank, acting more and more like he belonged leading a battlefield by the day, slammed Trip against a wall and threatened his life.

After a promise to the River Styx, and a few minutes to gather herbs. Trip told Ace he could move away from Hazel and Ace did just that, falling back onto his ass and pulling both hands to his head in an attempt to alleviate the pressure that was building up.
