Chapter 1:

The Initial Meeting

THE RELATIONSHIPS, as they became apparent over lunch, was definitely the most interesting aspect of sitting in a group made with people who were supposed to go out and save the world, despite the fact that history told them to hate each other.

Jason, Cato, and Ace let any annoyance go for ten minutes while the other centurions set up lunch. Jason was now taller than Ace by an inch, which Ace was not happy about. At least Cato still had some height on the kid.

As if nothing was wrong, as if Jason had only been gone on a short quest and not a six month excursion where no one was sure if he was dead or alive. The boys hugged and caught up like any family would. Ace was glad to see that he seemed as happy to see the Valenti brothers as they did him.

The only sucky part, which they found out pretty quick. Jason didn't have all his memories back. Something must have happened. He remembered Ace and Cato, and what they meant to him, but a lot of the details of his childhood were blurry to him.

When lunch finally got set up. Most of the legion ate like normal. At the main table, Annabeth and her crew sat across from Percy, Frank, Hazel, Reyna, Cato, Octavian, and Ace.

Things weren't awkward really. Not like Ace thought they would be. Although, as we took the first few minutes to themselves, to get situated, interesting things were revealed.

Jason seemed to have a new girlfriend. The cute one named Piper. Ace wasn't sure if Jason was aware that he and Reyna had a thing going on before he left, but clearly in the six months things had changed. Ace tried to get a read on Reyna, but if she noticed Jason holding Pipers hand other the table, she didn't give it away.

Leo was very talkative. Which didn't surprise Ace based on the message they got earlier. However, he was even bigger on flirting. Especially with Arya, who would do nothing else but threaten him and roll her eye's. None of it seemed to really bother her, which meant that they had been around each other a lot.

Speaking of Arya. Ace wasn't sure why, but he found himself watching her the most. Maybe it was because she was directly across from Ace. Or maybe it was because she wasn't as easy to understand as the others.

Annabeth and Arya talked with the ease of sisters. Which, if Ace didn't know better, if they looked even remotely alike, He probably would have thought they were. That was a good thing Ace guessed, if Annabeth and Percy were going to stay together. He couldn't imagine being with anyone that Cyrus or Cato didn't like. Arya and Jason also seemed to get along well. They looked to be as good of friends as Cato and Ace were with Max and Skylar. She also seemed open to jumping into any conversation she wanted too. Every time Ace looked back at her, she seemed more at ease.
