Old Family Friend
ACE AWOKE FOR THE SECOND TIME THAT DAY with a soft knock on the door. He opened his eyes and threw on his glasses. When he opened the door Hazel was standing politely with a plate of bacon and eggs held out and a warm smile on her face. Ace looked down at the plate and then back up to the girl.
"I would have come down." Ace said, taking to the plate and walking into his room, opening the door wider behind him in hopes she would follow.
"We already ate. Percy told me to let you sleep in since you've gotten the least sleep out of any of us these last few days. I went to check on Frank and his grandmother was up. She was very kind, but in the scariest way." She laughed as she shuddered.
"She told us there were weapons in the attic. That we needed to continue on our quest and fight out the giants to leave. She had to talk to Frank and then he would be up. I decided that meant it was probably time to wake you up as well. But no rush."
Ace picked up the fork and took a bite of eggs as he took in her words.
"Well Thank you for breakfast. And letting me sleep." She said.
She nodded as she walked out of the room, closing the door behind her. Ace was a little upset about the news. He had fantastically false hopes that he would be able to spend a little more time by himself and get some reading done. It was a shame they would have to leave so soon. The confines of a house, such as the one that they were in, was a nice break.
Outside the window, the fire still raged. If anything it looked like there were more giants than there were last night. Ace couldn't help but wonder why they were so dead set on being here. Even if they wanted to kill Frank's grandmother, what exactly would that accomplish? And why were there so many of them for one frail old lady?
It didn't matter much, they would have to fight their way out anyway.
Before he knew it the plate was gone, and Ace's stomach was no longer hungry. Although it wasn't because he was full, the sight of sitting giants waiting for a fight would be enough to curb everyone's appetite.
He made quick work on making the bad and jotting down a thank you note to Mrs. Zhang. He wasn't sure she was ever going to see it, but he figured it's better than not thanking her at all. He packed all his stuff into his bag and pulled on his jeans, before strapping his bow on his back and heading out of the room.
