Chapter 8.

Touch and Go

HAD THEY BEEN OVER WATER a storm would have been brewing the minute Blackjack came into view. Piper and Ace looked deep in discussion as they walked alongside Blackjack who was carrying the body of two limp boys.

Arya had wanted to spend the day trying to try and get to know Frank and Hazel better, but after her embarrassment of a night, the only thing she wanted to do with her time was avoid everyone until something of greater note happens. She was hoping it wouldn't be her brother and friends death, but she guess she doesn't always get what she wants.

Arya knew something had happened. Annabeth and her were frantically pacing the deck after the second hour came and went. They didn't dare say a word to each other.

"Will one of you go get me donuts?" Arya asked Frank and Hazel, once the boys were within range.

There was a long silence, Arya was willing to bet some shared looks, and then the sound of retreating footsteps.

Blackjack flew up to the deck of the ship with Piper and the boys. The rest of them jumped into action immediately. Annabeth and Hedge worked to grab Percy, while Leo and Arya worked to grab Jason. Both of them had wounds and were knocked into a deep state of unconsciousness.

Piper was behind them explaining what had happened although Arya could tell by her scratchy tone that she had worn herself thin trying to convince the boys not to kill each other in a corn field.

Neither Percy nor Jason would have wanted to go out like that.

After Blackjack came back up with Ace, Arya greeted the horse as Hazel and Frank approached him. Once they were informed that the donuts were for the loyal steed Blackjack, they were more than happy to take care of him.

They carried the boys down to the medical bay while Piper tried to piece together her story, and Ace jumped in to help. Piper was finishing up while they were laying the two down on the beds. Hedge started treating Percy. Ace started to grab the stuff to work on Jason.

"...yeah and then Ace hit Percy so hard I thought he was dead."

As if Kronos had used his powers on them, the chaos around the medical bay came to a complete dead stop. Only for a second, as the complete insanity of Piper's words registers through everyone.

Something inside of Arya snapped. Her anger had been simmering since she downed the golden vial in front of everyone and had only been growing since the group left the ship hours ago.
