IT TOOK A WHILE, but Percy found a place for them to settle. Hazel was fine as far as Ace could tell. Just a blackout caused by something he didn't know. Frank picked up Hazel, while Ace helped Percy beach the boat. They took Hazel up the cliff and settled down while they waited for her to wake up.
"Where are we?" she asked after coming too and taking in her surroundings.
Frank exhaled. "Thank the gods you're awake! We're in Mendocino, about a hundred and fifty miles north of the Golden Gate."

"A blackout?" Frank said, quickly taking Hazel's hand in concern. "Is it medical? Why haven't I noticed before?"
"I try to hide it," she admitted. "I've been lucky so far, but it's getting worse. It's not medical...not really. Nico says it's a side effect from my past, from where he found me."
The way she said that, sent a chill down Ace's spine. He had just talked to Hazel yesterday about how she was from New Orleans.
"Where exactly did Nico find you?" Percy asked. The strong winds blowing his hair.
She swallowed hard, debated for a minute, then shook her head.
"I'll explain," she promised, as she grabbed her bag and started shifting through it. "Is...is there anything to drink?"
