Chapter 74: Preparing for Everything

Ivan POV

Once again Igor shows how inconsiderate he is of everyone's sleep. He called a meeting around 3 a.m. in the living room with the TV on an American news station and although he isn't even in here, he shows how very considerate he can be for leaving the TV on and running

"Am I late?" Navy asks, running out of the elevator. She's been adjusting to her new life surprisingly well and she's shown herself as extremely useful to Igor, they're already having secret meetings to work on things together

"No, we all kinda just got here" Vanya answers. Navy nods then takes a seat on the sofa next to her sister

I lean back into the couch and start dozing off when someone turns up the volume of the TV "Isn't that your police spy?" I hear Anastasia say. My eyes pop open, staring at the TV intensely

"Tonight Detective Henry Nolan was found dead in his studio apartment" Dead? What the fuck does she mean dead. "The person that found him was his partner, Detective Aspen, he said he came to check on him as he's missed a few interrogations. And found that he ODed on heroin and fentanyl" the news lady says then it switches to a man

This is so fucking great! So fucking amazing, right before the court date he decides to take drugs and ruin this whole thing for us. I knew we shouldn't have used a drug addict— even if it was a recovering one. A druggie will always be a druggie

"Detective Aspen!" The newsman runs down Nolan's partner, shoving the microphone into his face. "Please Detective Aspen, can I have your statement?"

"No comment." His face is blank, not one emotion is laid across his entire face. Why are American police so afraid of showing emotion?

"Alana, can you run a background check on him—" I stop as words start to fly out of the news guy's face

"Is it try they found ligature marks stating that he might've been tied up?" The newsman says. That sentence grains Aspen's attention.

He stops and looks dead at the man "W-what?" Now there is emotion on his face... confusion and hurt?

"Stop spreading false information" Aspen comments then gets into his car

"Alana—"

"I've done it already and given it to papa. He asked me too yesterday" Oh? Great, he should show it then when he gets down here

Now I wonder if what the news guy said was true. Were there marks on his body? Did someone kill Nolan? Or did he just OD? The list of questions I have is endless and everyone in this room is just as clueless as I am

The TV is suddenly turned off and the sound of someone walking out of the elevator fills my ears. "Hello everyone" Igor greets. Someone is cheerful

"The news, it was confusing, no?" he chuckles "We are gonna play a fun game I like to call 'murder or suicide'. This is where I'll show you pictures of a dead body and you will pass them around then I want to hear if you think it was murder or suicide." What is he getting at? He just isn't going to talk about Nolan?

"Here Ruby, you start" He gives Ruby a yellow envelope whilst she pulls the picture of the body out, Igor stares at her face intensively.

"Oh, my--" she gasps "It's N-Nolan." She shoves the paper into my hand, not wanting to look at it anymore, and once I grasp it. I immediately go to work

There are signs of head trauma. Notes from the M.E. says it looks like it was done with a butt of a gun. There are marks on his wrists indicating he's been tied up. Now as for the needle markings on his forearm, they all look like they were done by Nolan himself, the M.E. wrote that in the notes as well. Murder or suicide? How about I don't fucking know
